Man Always Gets A Little Rush Put of Telling People John Lennon Beat His Wife
quote:

NEW ORLEANS—Explaining that casually dropping the little-known fact into conversations “never gets old,” local man Derek Matheson told reporters Monday he always gets a bit of a rush from informing others that John Lennon physically abused his first wife, Cynthia Powell. “Seeing the looks of shock, disbelief, and sadness on people’s faces after I mention that John Lennon couldn’t control his rage and regularly hit women is just such a treat,” said Matheson, who reportedly derives a measure of satisfaction from planting discomfort in the minds of his acquaintances, coworkers, and even strangers at social gatherings by bringing up the biographical detail about the widely beloved musician and peace activist.

“I’m always listening for someone to make a comment about the Beatles, and when it happens, I’m ready to jump in and say that not only did John Lennon beat his wife, but he beat his son, too, and that he even admitted to it on multiple occasions. It’s always a nice little thrill.”

Matheson added that if people were already aware of the songwriter’s violent side, he also delights in stating that Matthew Broderick killed two women with his car.

Yes. That (and how well this satire applies to the OP) is the joke.

Is it possible that two 18 y/o kids (JL and PM) could write such soulfully deep songs from their first two albums. No effing way. Personally I think they found someone's old book of poetry.

Quit being an idiot.

The fact that Paul wrote "Yesterday" when he was 19 spokes volumes about his songwriting chops at that age and how advanced they already were.

If your music taste is predicated by whether the musician has ever mistreated a female or walked out on their kid, I'm guessing you don't listen to a lot of music.

This.

As celebrities go, he's very average.

Sounds like the OP is a military guy opposed to peace and harmony. Maybe he prefers to randomly murder men, women, and children on the other side of the Earth after being worked up to do so by juvenile propaganda.

Over the years, Harrison has gradually edged out McCartney as my favorite. And I’ve seen McCartney 8x live in concert (Ringo 4x) over the past 30 years.

The Beatles were an amazing fun energetic band to us kids back in the mid-1960s. But starting with and beyond their Rubber Soul album, they morphed into something much less fun or positive than before. From my old fart perch in 2021, I look back at the Beatles with very mixed feelings. I believe they were a much less positive influence on my generation than back then we believed they were. In fact, a fair amount of their later music should have had a “don’t use after…” expiration date.

Half a century later and people still don't get the context. He was just bullshitting about stuff.

quote:

Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn’t argue about that; I’m right and I’ll be proved right. We’re more popular than Jesus now; I don’t know which will go first—rock ’n’ roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It’s them twisting it that ruins it for me.

Seems like as time goes on it's looking like he was right.

Were songs like “and your bird can sing” and “Martha my dear” just too edgy for you ? Do you sit around an oil lamp listening to Gregorian chants ?

Somewhat related to Lennon, we must commend Yoko Ono on her public service during the corona virus lock downs...

No, they were stupid, piss poor, and not at all fun or filled with the exuberant energy of the earlier Beatles’ music.

Still better than McCartney's "A Wonderful Christmas Time.". That song pure drivel.

I'd rather hear the song about the Christmas donkey.

He loved a crazy assed woman. Many lesser famous men have done the same. I guess she treated him well but she is cuckoo. He was also lived long enough to be alive and famous longer that he was alive and unknown.

An insane level of fame in a time pre dating all modern manners of achieving such fame. They all became crazy with an inflated sense of self. How could you not?
