Okay, but don't blame the designers

People who initially designed I-10/110 interchange have probably been dead a while anyways.

I can guarandamntee you that's not a design decision and it's solely a social appeasement issue.

That's racist

It's also racist to say that I110 has two 99 degrees turns in it solely for social appeasement reasons.

Actually, my aunt is pretty high up in DOTD and she said they get most of their ideas from folks off the internet.

Well, if they are reading this thread, they have a more viable solution to learn about than anything else I've seen.

...but this won't change the fact that I-10 needs to be widened between the I-12 split and downtown.

Interesting. I am curios who performed the study to come up with this plan. It is pretty much exactly what has been presented several times before.

Opinions:

1. The Old Bridge has 11 ft travel lanes and no shoulder. Expect twice as many accidents daily on that bridge as on the I-10 Bridge.

2. Redirecting "loop traffic" back to I-12 at Airline is a mistake. The whole idea of a loop is to direct "thru traffic" around the congested area. The north leg of the loop needs to extend out to east Livingston Parish.

3. "Urban Renewal Zone" - If the initial step of that plan is not "Level with bulldozers", they are wasting money.

they won't direct traffic right onto Airline with all the stop lights, etc. It would be a non-stop interstate style facility running down airline (tolled) with untolled frontage roads on either side.

the document Shexter linked earlier has some terribly scanned pictures of the concept.

It seems that if the 10/110 interchange had been extended further away from the bridge, there would have been more room for lanes, or at least a better interchange with 10 and the bridge. I had read or heard that at one point, the reasoning behind the two dog legs on 110 was because of Sacred Heart being in the direct line of the new road.

Anyone know more on the history of how the route for 110/10 was chosen through BR?

On a similar note, you can get lost for hours in the EBR library digital archives with all the old maps of BR.

Did these same people do the restriping on 110/10 & for the Plaquemine/Port Allen exit off the bridge?

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about eastbound traffic being dumped off of the loop (Airline) onto I-12 at that location. There is still congestion in that direction there, and it will still be there with the loop. Eastbound loop traffic needs to be carried out beyond Denham and preferably Walker also to alleviate the congestion in that region.

From what another poster listed, I think this may be in a future plan. But the link in the OP is basically a starting point on existing right of way.

i like the idea... i also support another bridge south of the city that would connect 10 with like nicholson or something, as nicholson already has an interstate access point south of BR... and frontage roads on both "loops" would greatly help local traffic, as well as giving cross country drivers (big rigs, etc) more options around, rather than through the city...

Some of the top requests were for housing, a grocery store and health care facilities. Then, LSU design students used those ideas as a guide to create two concept designs.

Both designs show the 16 acres filled with retail space, a library and educational training facilities. One also includes a grocery store and a movie theater.

"I just hope that they do something good for this area," said Tyrone Torrence about the designs.

Wouldn't mind at least the library and health care facilities.

That's simple- do to Florida Blvd what they are proposing for Airline Hwy. turn it into a toll expressway with free feeder/local access roads. It's practically already done until the Parish line anyway. You would need to add some overpasses and rework intersections, but the bones are there. Extend that out to just past Walker and the morning and evening commutes just became easy. Of course it would take years to do that...

Best solution I have seen so far.....until the NASCAR wannabe Livingston Parish gravel truck drivers take out two lanes and a railroad track on the Old Bridge - and I promise you that will be their route of choice.

You don't need to hear anything. You just need to look at the map. You don't think a toll road, that will take a decade to complete, down Airline highway cuts the City in two?

It is the same right of way with most (if not all) of the same intersections as over/underpasses. How would it change the way everything is set up now?

Now if you are referring to the way Florida Blvd 'cuts the city in two' currently, that is an entirely different discussion.

It may make it easier to travel between the 'sides' if done correctly.

There will need to be major improvements to the old bridge.
