Is this going to solve our traffic problem? Looks like the original plan from 50 years ago, they better get started...

At this point a dirt road that stops at the river would be an improvement

It's a start. If you look at other cities, even those of comparable size, they have "expressways" that are within the interior of the area with limited access.

Think Earhart Expressway in NOLA, Memorial Drive between downtown and Memorial Park in Houston, etc.

The loop should be south of I-10, not north. Who wants a 23 mile loop running north of BR?

This is because they are utilizing the existing bridge.

This would be another step in exposing the bottleneck I-10 East at the I-10/I-110 Split as the main problem.

That is the problem, and until something is done about that, it will always be the problem.

I realize that, but north BR is not where the people live or where the people are trying to get.

I agree but many won't. I think a bridge around Addis/Plaquemine would help to relieve the traffic from the new bridge to the split.

Free public roads would still run parallel to the proposed toll road.

Someone please explain....

i think this may be addressed in another project. DOTD had a public meeting a few weeks ago about I-10 improvements. i wasn't able to attend, but i think that was in the discussion.

The plan would use the existing right-of-way, so no private property would need to be acquired.
that's misleading. the first part between I-10 and the existing bridge goes right through everybody's pawpaw's huntin lease/family farm/way of life and would need to be acquired.

it's not meant to be a north BR desination route. it's meant to keep them moving east, past BR. there is more traffic, especially truck traffic, going east to the gulf coast and beyond vs. south to new orleans. it's a fix focused more on helping the worst part of the I-10 corridor between los angeles and tallahassee for the good of motherfrickin america, not just BR.

Maybe, but how is it presented? Is it presented as a BR solution?

IMO, any capacity added in BR is a plus. There is so much traffic in Prairieville that it's disgusting. I leave my neighborhood and am greeted with a parking lot on Airline. It makes me hate living here.

This is the citizen talking and not the engineer.

I guess it's better than nothing. I just hope the toll is high enough to keep the Urban Renewal Zone denizens from coming south.

I think they mean Texas style toll road/hwy with frontage/service roads on either side.
