IMO only property owners should be able to vote on property taxes.
I would think people who pay rent or lease a property contribute to property taxes by way of paying their rent, no??
Posted on 5/3/25 at 12:15 pm to el Gaucho
If it passes then the rent is going up

Maybe their parents should do better. And take birth control so they don’t have more: Not my responsibility.

It won't do any good if liberal judges let the criminals out

do you have any idea what the money will pay for if property taxes are passed?
So, no thanks

How long has the DA been in office? How will additional funding make it any different?
Here’s a big problem with the DA tax. T
Currently the DA is funded in the mayors general fund budget with taxes from the parish’s taxes.
The new tax will fund the DA completely. They will get all the tax which is more than they get now.
But they aren’t telling you where the money they currently get will go,

Failure in parenting.

Why? Everyone pays property taxes.

So they shouldn’t vote

The one that funds the DA office? Voting yes all day every day.
The currrent budget is 16 million. The new tax is said to bring in 24 million. Does Hillar Moore need $40 million per year? He gets a shite ton of money from Pre trial diversion money. Voted no.

Voted no

My property taxes already went up over 1000 bucks this year. They can reassess whenever they want - no way anyone should vote yes for this. Manage the money you have and stop taking more. Privatization is a better answer, let’s vote on what should be privatized - image what private industry could do with the tax revenue that gets wasted today. Taxes are a different form of theft. We left England in 1776 for the same issues we have today.

Yeah, sorry you failed as a parent and want to blame it on the school system.
No magnet program is programming your kids into failures. That starts at home for anyone of reasonable means.
As for the property tax bill, I understand voting no and would vote no myself until they show that they are going to use it correctly.

So I should just vote no to renewing the mills for the public library, drainage district, or recreation dept (playgrounds) because I am sure they provide no actual benefit to the parish
It’s not that those entities don’t need funding; they do. What I disagree with is instead of finding other ways to fund these, the lazy assed pols only know 1 trick which is taxing the property owners. We’ve seen our insurance premiums and flood premiums increase due to the laziness and corruption in government, so why not take it in the shorts again by paying another almost billion dollars over 10 years in taxes? And (Jefferson Parish) why does the library millage generate more than the drainage millage? Are libraries more important? Tell you what, why don’t you show me a report on library and playground usage before you ask for the same amount of money you’ve been receiving when its well know population has decreased and demographics have shifted? We all know why they won’t. How about cutting services somewhere else if these issues are so important to fund? While we’re at it you can cram it with the “this is not a new tax” BS.

I have no issue with my tenant being allowed to vote on property taxes. After all, he is paying mine.
