Hell of a limb there. Death will always win on a long enough time line. That doesn't mean stretching the time is always a loss when it eventually wins.

Maybe extend life a little but ‘cure’ aging? No way.

They will cure aging. There is little doubt about that. Two decades? I doubt that. But for many years I have been telling my children, who are in their late 20’s and early 30’s, that they will live over 200 years.

These are not separate goals from curing aging. As the data will clearly show, the older you get, the more susceptible to diseases you become. Cancer, heart disease, dementia, alzheimers, etc. all affect the old far more than the young and its not a coincidence.

Our current strategy for developing treatments is largely symptom based, but the truth may be that these diseases begin purely by the degradation of our bodies over time, or degredation of certain genes in our body.

There are even some genes that are hugely beneficial in our younger years that flip inour older years that cause serious disease.

Besides, how could anyone with a lick of sense claim to cure aging but still have no answer for the most common diseases causing death? It doesn't make any sense.

The fact is, aging IS the disease (how to measuring aging is an area of research on its own), and it's the disease (whatever they find aging to be exactly) that opens the door for the other diseases, we typically know, to take root.

Look up senescence. Bezos, Peter Thiel, and other billionaires funded a company called Unity Biotechnology to develop drugs called "senolytics", which are drugs that try to remove senescent cells in the body, which are "zombie cells" that build up over a life time. Thinking is these "zombie cells" are eventually a cause of cancer in the body.

What I'm saying is the research in the pursuit of "curing aging" is going to overlap with research in curing other diseases.

It's called diet and exercise for the vast majority of people. I don't take anything seriously until it starts with recognizing obesity is a pandemic.

Extending biological life is just one way they are working on longevity. Another way would be to transfer your consciousness. Possibly by uploading onto the internet then downloading into a robot. Musk is working on that one. Your robot future self would have its own vulnerabilities, but nothing like this fragile form we are in now that can be easily killed in a variety of ways.

Even if I could live forever, there will definitely be times where the impulse to bury myself in the dirt and wait to try again in a few decades will be tempting.

We’re living in a frick this gay Earth era right now.

Give me suspended animation and I’ll take it.

My God we are not overpopulated. They keep saying this and it’s just not true. Do you realize how little space we take up on earth? There is so much land for farming that isn’t even touched. Hell farmers have empty crops that are paid to keep that way.

Only certain people will get to live longer. You think these nuts who complain about overpopulation are going to let bubba redneck or Ravi live an extra day?

That’s a minor issue. Things like COVID and the subsequent vaccine are pretty easy to imagine as tools to reduce the population or at least stifle growth.

The world isn't overpopulated. That's a Democratic talking point, nothing more.

Being frozen as a 60 year old woman does not sound ideal. They couldn’t do this sooner?
