re: Professor has missed 15 days this semester
I went through a situation similar enough that I think my advice my help.

First, get other concerned classmates together and schedule a meeting with the department chair. If the chair will meet with the group, make sure to designate a speaker ahead of time. If the chair will only meet with you one at a time then make sure you are all arguing the same points.

Do not go in arguing emotion, go in presenting facts. You're paying for a service that is not being delivered. Their absence also means you can't go to them for better clarification of points covered in class. How much have any of you actually gotten from the class by having no teacher for much of the semester?

If you have concrete proof that the prof has been out and about when calling in sick, present it. If it's a case where someone in your group has seen them out multiple times when the prof has called out sick, have them present that. If you have proof of the prof playing RMP, present that as well.

If the prof is banging the department chair then consider going to the Dean of the Business College (I ended up having to do that for my group, the Dean had been my adviser my first couple of years of college so we already knew one another). Even if he will only meet with one of you, have as many show up to give silent support as you can.

Now here's where things can get tricky. Your prof sounds like a massive fricktard who will purposely try to frick you for calling them out like this. Make. fricking. Sure. you bring this up in as non-challenging but firm manner as possible. Something along the lines of:

"Before I go I have one other question on this... With the way this has happened, many of us are concerned there may be some form of retaliation through testing or grading. I hope this doesn't come to pass, but if it does what would be our options?"

What *should* happen is the department chair calls the prof in and reads them the riot act for so many absences. However, that may be considered more of an HR thing and thus you get punted to the Dean. If you end up having to go to the Dean and the Dean is doing a good job then you'll see a change within a week.

If the prof retaliates by testing you on shite they never taught, marks correct answers wrong, etc. then make damned sure you and your group take that back to the Dean.

If nothing changes after two weeks, go back to the Dean (if the Dean is legit they'll even tell you to let them know if nothing changes). If you get blown off by the Dean, go to the Dean of Students or the President.

If nothing happens after that, go to the media with all of your evidence. This is the nuke so only use it once all other avenues fail.

This honestly should have been dealt with earlier, but you still have a little time if you move now. Start with your advisor, if you have one, then go to the chair if nothing happens in three days, then to the dean if nothing happens in another three days.

Bring documentation of every absence you can. Be firm but not hostile. Subtly bring up the retaliation point. Let them know you'll be in a bind with the VA.

Most importantly, if you can, get other students to talk to the chair/dean as well. One student can be explained away, but if you can 4 or 5 people to say they're having issues due to absenteeism then it becomes much harder for the administration to ignore.

All good points.

But also go with things you’ve been doing to fill the gap. Not just I have a bad grade cause he’s bad and you need to help me now.

I’ve been working a ton extra because of this and need more help plays much better than the guy that’s about to flunk showing up in November pointing fingers

I am more concerned about your lack of maturity.

31, 3 kids and you are only taking classes because the American tax payer is paying you to go to school?

Get your shite together and make a plan for a career in which you can support your family.

Go by her house and offer to give her "special attention" for an A. If you are really in a bind, it would be worth it. All female Econ professors would say yes to an odder like that.

So I'm immature because I served in the military and get free college?

Curious what you all would do in this situation. Pretty sure I wont get a B in this class and it could end my time in grad school. I dont want to drop because I would drop below full time VA and owe the VA for the class and GI bill payments. It is an econometrics class fwiw.

Damn, I would hate going to college now. I don't consider myself college material though I do have two BS degrees and an MS. Too much pressure man and any professor who can't hold up their side of the education equation should be fired.

Oh, ace the final and pull it out. It will be an internal voice in your head victory.
Study straight for the next 72/96 hours. You are capable and smart enough. Then go out in the world and use the theories taught in the Econ class.

Leverage the VA angle here when you address the board about how unprofessional the Professors actions are and that your funding is jeopardized. You’re paying to be indoctrinated by the EJ Ourso School of Business and expect a level of professionalism to be met by the faculty, just like professionalism must be met by students alike.

Moreover, look over the syllabus regarding this Econ class. For example, in a circuits class I had at LSU back in 2011, there was an attendance policy stating if a student missed 3 class they were dropped from the course. If your professor has something along the same lines as this, bring it up to the board when you address them as being a double standard. Again, drive home about how your learning experience has been greatly jeopardized by this Professors actions.

On a side note, do not engage with Charles Roussel, who I am sure is a member of the Econ board at LSU. He’s one of the most pompous and arrogant pricks you will ever come across and will try and engage you in frivolous banter.

How are your grades in other classes? Will you get an A in another class to balance the C? You should be ok if your cumulative GPA is 3.0, right?

I think this is BS & I agree with what everyone else suggested re: addressing your concerns with the department/college.

A) Bull shite. Undergrad econometrics has a multiple pre-reqs making it nearly impossible to take before your second year.
B) Undergraduate econometrics is WAY different than graduate econometrics.

All true. I had the pre-req’s from highschool (college credit) and my advisor was the professor, he gave me permission to take the class.

It was undergrad econometrics. It was hard, thus the B. Probably shouldn’t have taken it.

You are correct this is a 3000 level class. Undergrad was General Studies - yes, laugh at me - but all my classes were Econ and Business. I'm 31, been a "full time" student since getting out of the military three years ago. I am taking this course because I'm deficient, since not being an Econ grad. There are two more Econometrics classes required after this one. I chose Econ because grad school was a last minute decision and didn't have time to take the GMAT/GRE this summer, when my third child was born.

So you just don’t know what you want to do and would rather stay in school and smoke weed than getting a real degree and going to work? I bet you don’t even have any plans or internships when you graduate

You need to email some people ASAP. At least start the convo and get it in writing. Don’t wait. At this pace the professor is going to miss 20 classes. Hell missing 5 without a sub is unacceptable.

But you don’t want to wait. Get some appointments at least in writing and discuss the issue. Push your VA benefits and discuss that you are missing class time that would absolutely help you out.
