Currently in graduate school for MA Econ and my professor has cancelled class 15 times this semester and passed off two labs to other professors. Today in a review she told a student that if he didn't get it by now, it's too late. He went to student services to drop the class after today's class

Curious what you all would do in this situation. Pretty sure I wont get a B in this class and it could end my time in grad school. I dont want to drop because I would drop below full time VA and owe the VA for the class and GI bill payments. It is an econometrics class fwiw.

In other words, you haven't been doing well and are looking for someone to blame?

What’s the reason for this? Is she sick or lazy?

Yeah, not going to lie, I'm not doing good in this class.

Seems like you and everyone else would have an argument with the dean regarding your grade because of chronic absenteeism.

She says "sick", but students say they see her out at karaoke, bars, etc.

There are two students in the class that had it last semester and this was the reason why they failed. They aren't bad students either. They also warned this would happen at the beginning of the semester.

I had a bad experience with an instructor and definitely would have failed a class. I sent an email to the department head and got an A.

I’d be pretty upset tbh and it’s worth bringing up to the dean, they probably already know though. Even if you were acting the class I’d be upset, you’re paying them to educate you and they obviously are t upholding their end of the deal.

Your teacher sounds like an a-hole. What’s the retake policy? Meaning, some schools will replace the grade on your transcript with the higher, more recent one... or average it

I assume I could probably get this dropped given the situation, but I would owe the VA for the drop in hours. Also, shes the only one currently teaching this econometrics class.

Nothing would happen if I bring this up to the Econ department because they are all friends, but more than likely I will go talk to the graduate school on monday.

What was your undergrad in? Econometrics is a junior level course. It’s just math.

If true, that’s totally unacceptable and should be dealt with by administration.

Hire a PI to tail her. She’s obviously got something going on with all the absences. Use the info to blackmail her into an A. That’s called return on investment. If you had been paying attention you would have learned that in class.

I once got a B in some dumb sophomore class because I missed 3 classes and if you missed more then 2 it was an auto grade drop and my dumbass didn’t know. BS policy but I should of paid attention. But 15 days of class? That’s completely unacceptable I’d absolutely be raising hell especially due to your VA.
