What was your undergrad in? Econometrics is a junior level course. It’s just math.

You are correct this is a 3000 level class. Undergrad was General Studies - yes, laugh at me - but all my classes were Econ and Business. I'm 31, been a "full time" student since getting out of the military three years ago. I am taking this course because I'm deficient, since not being an Econ grad. There are two more Econometrics classes required after this one. I chose Econ because grad school was a last minute decision and didn't have time to take the GMAT/GRE this summer, when my third child was born.

I disagree with the attendance policies. As posted above, you are paying for the class. I can choose not to come

What’s wrong with you youngsters? You’re paying to be educated and she’s scamming the system. Call her out. NAME HER RIGHT HERE. Tell her she’s a horrible teacher and try to get her run off.

I just looked, she has all positive stuff. She knows what it is though, we've discussed it and used a data set she created about RMP

Follow the chain of command.

1. Do you have a graduate advisor? First you should tell him or her what's going on. They should be able to handle it without you being involved.

2. If not, you should go to the department chair. Tell them what's going on. Give them a chance to do something.

3. If nothing improves quickly, then you should go to the Dean.

Nothing would happen if I bring this up to the Econ department because they are all friends, but more than likely I will go talk to the graduate school on Monday.

I’d go in a with an civil yet outraged attitude that this professor is stealing your hard earned money and short changing your education by not doing her job. 15 missed classes is totally unacceptable to any administrator. I’d demand they remove this class from your record and let you take the class next semester on their dime.

You would be surprised what going to a professor's office a few times can do.

I'd first go talk with them.

If you so more interest in the class than you actually have and talk as if you know the material, there is a chance.. seeing you are working hard and understand the material they will help you out.

I worked that angle a few times. Maybe 4 or 5 times.. If I recall it worked in my favor all but once.

Curious what you all would do in this situation.

This happened to me in my Freshman year, my professor was still putting her home back together from Katrina damage and apparently having to deal with contractors and stuff she ended up missing tons of class.

Really pissed me off too because on the days I had her class she was the only class I had in the morning so I'd wake up and drive all the way to class only to see a notice on the door or she'd email us 5 mins before class time. It got so bad that I really didn't feel like leaving home because chances are I'd have to drive all the way right back.

Well at the end of the semester everyone in the class was wondering how in the hell we would have a final exam. I was nervous as hell because there was no way I knew any of the material. When we met for the final exam the professor just started crying in front of the whole class (and she was the fricking chair of the department too) and basically told us to email her with an essay outlining what grade we think we should get and why.

I got an A

my professor has cancelled class 15 times

This is just nuts. I teach in a college, and we have a policy that you can't under any circumstances cancel class. You may occasionally, find someone to cover your class if you have to leave for a conference or something. Cancelling class altogether, will be grounds for dismissal, I would imagine.
