Or at least getting out of it, I really would prefer not to get on anti - depressants but I was wondering if anyone had advice on dealing with it.

Good thinking to avoid drugs.

If you’re a dude, start working out, stop eating bullshite, and sit back and feel the wonders of rising testosterone.

1. Exercise more

2. Volunteer at a place like St. Vincent DePaul or other organization which helps the unfortunate.

It really depends on the severity of your depression, you should go see your doctor to be properly diagnosed. If you just feel tired and unambitious, you may have low testosterone, or could have sleep apnea. If you feel sad and hopeless, or tend to get deeply upset over otherwise minor things, it could be clinical. There are synapses in the brain that could not be firing, and this can adversely affect your moods. The most important things I have found to feeling good, both physically and emotionally are > eat well (limit your sugar intake), sleep well, exercise regularly (even walking 30 minutes a few times a week is good) and drink a lot of water. You should drink the same number of ounces as half your weight in lbs. That is, if you weigh 200 lbs, you should drink at least 100 oz of water a day. The fact that you feel you might be depressed and want to address it is very important. People who don't understand tend to scoff it off and say things like "just cheer up and quit feeling sorry for yourself". They don't understand, and probably never will, so don't listen to them. There are answers - please see your doctor. And don't hesitate to see multiple doctors to get multiple opinions. Good luck -

I've mentioned before that a lack of vitamin D can cause problems. If your body isn't getting enough vitamin D it has to pull it out of your bones and it will cause more problems than you would imagine, which could actually cause depression as well.. That's part of the reason it is important to get out in the sun.. Also, take vitamin D.

You still want to go see a doctor. If you are truly dealing with depression, the faster you can get it taken care of.. The better it will be..

On a bad day, get one thing accomplished. That way you will feel like it wasn't all for naught. On an average day, the magic number is "3", and on a great day it's "5."

Try to make face to face contact with at least one human every day. Get outside some. Stay away from the bedroom. Eat right and do a little exercise (you don't have to be a gym rat).

Worse cases, find a therapist you feel you can trust and see them for some sessions.

Worst cases, you may have to still get on an anti-depressant for awhile. However, most find the effects to be time limited. If you are a male be cautious of which anti-depressant you get on or you will have something else to be even more depressed about.

Hope that helps.

P.S. I'd be very skeptical about churches and religion. I find they are more prone to take advantage of you, and all it frequently does is avoid the real problem behind your depression. Running from the cause of your depression is not the answer.

I just want to say that I spent about half an hour going through all the responses in here and I'd like to thank each and every one of you for your comments and advice. I am going to try and turn this around and I've already cleared my fridge out of a bunch of junk foods and left overs on top of buying a couple 35 packs of water. Sincerely, I thank all of you whether it was advice, a joke or just telling me to get off my arse.

Depression is a chemical imbalance. Go to a doctor and talk to him about it. SSRI's work wonders for some people and they are cheap nowadays.

Exercise is shown in clinical studies to be a big help as well.

Exercise, diet, changing your routine, and I might add starting a new career. Your job has a lot to do with staying in that rut of “ what the frick is the point of life feeling “.

Pray the rosary daily, go to confession weekly, find a Spiritual Director and meet monthly, attend mass daily.
The spiritual direction will guide you to what you need to do. Meet as often as necessary if your Spiritual Director can accommodate it.

Do something that makes you happy: run, lift, kung fu, hunting, fishing, "romance", etc. Do something to get your groove back....
Pills all have side effects.

You can do it.
You will do it.

And will even look back and appreciate the journey good and bad. And be stronger for it.

Good advice on here. Know you will get on the other side. I agree with changing routine. If you are religious, engage more in your religion. Read or listen to something intriguing not related to the source of your depression. I enjoy a drink or 2 as much as the next guy but lay off the booze until you get in a good head space.
