Exercise, stop drinking and cut back on caffeine. Reach out to friends and family and try to be more social. Go find a counselor/therapist. If you don't like the first one or they don't help, get another one.

Nothing is a magic pill that will fix it immediately; you'll have to start laying the bricks by doing the above things, and it takes some effort and patience. It may not feel like it's helping at first so be prepared for that. You can have off days or bad days or regress or feel like nothing is helping, but keep laying those bricks dude. You will beat it if you keep that up. Good luck.

Try acupuncture. Also make a probiotic for "mood" has ashwagandha. Take a B complex with folic and niacin. Get out and walk, look up at the tree limbs and think of things that may be causing your depression (this is poor mans NLP therapy). Don't eat garbage, soups nourish the soul.

Get help. Now. Do all these other things in cooperation with getting help. Seriously. Please.

Additionally, they say you're a product of the 5 closest people in your life. I'd make an effort to meet and hang out with a few new friends that put you in a better place. Going to a local church could be a good place.

Also, just be aware that this is the best time in the history of the world to actually be depressed. We have the ability to start over in a new place within a day. With a cheap flight, you could reinvent yourself tomorrow. My only point here is, if you're depressed enough to do something drastic, try that.

Find something that keeps your mind busy.

For me it was teaching myself to play guitar 16 years ago.

Now,I can pick up my guitar and I'm in my happy place.

It could be working out on a regular schedule for you.

Something that keeps you from just sitting and thinking.

Good luck and God Bless.

If you want to try some things before seeking professional help:

Exercise. Exercising has physiological benefits that can work to counteract neurological changes of depression.

Eat well. This includes cutting way back if not eliminating alcohol. Alcohol and depression are a bad combination. Doesn’t mean you can’t have a drink but it should be a drink every now and then until you get a handle on your depression. Then you can have a baseline and decide what you want to do with alcohol.

Meditate. Start somewhere. Mindfulness can help depression and anxiety. Being able to be present in the current moment helps to fight depression’s tendency to live I. The past regrets or future what if’s.

Finally, and this is important- go volunteer, preferably somewhere that impacts people. Depression is a selfish illness. I don’t mean that depressed people are selfish. I mean that depression itself makes people focus on themselves and their own circumstances, failings, etc. Volunteering forces you to get out of your own self and focus on others. It can be powerful medicine.

It's already been said in this thread, but exercise is a huge factor. When you're feeling down the last thing you want to do is exercise but you have to force yourself. Start with taking a brisk walk around the neighborhood, quickly enough to get your heart rate up and sweat a bit.

Do it! Good luck man.

If things get too bad seek professional help, you don't have to feel like that.

There was a topic on here about this a couple weeks ago. No one recipe works for everyone. I can give you some advice though. Sometimes it just takes getting back to doing what you enjoy, such as being outdoors. However depending on the severity of your depression, it may take getting on a prescribed med to get you to that point. Regardless the approach, feeling better about yourself physically is a key to overcoming depression. So you’ll need to do whatever it takes to get you out of this low place and get back into the gym. That may mean talking to a doctor and getting on meds. Remember though, antidepressant meds don’t have to be a permanent solution. You can use them to bridge to help get to a better place, and then talk to your doctor about weaning off. It also doesn’t hurt to make your way to church every once in a while either. Depression sucks man. Good luck with it.

I always numb my brain when I feel it creeping in.
Play a lot of video games or watch shows.
Just keep busy and don't give yourself time to dwell on shite.
Because it will creep in whenever you least expect it.
I've dealt with depression since I can remember. And I don't need anti depressants. Just have to get you a system in place to unclutter your mind.
I personally do about 1200 mf runs in diablo.lol

This is very serious....funny hint about depression

If someone has cancer or another health problem there is concern from everyone, but mental health is overlooked

Speak to a professional or someone who has knowledge about the reason for your depression, if it is due to combat I can help

The only easy day was...... Yesterday

Prayer
Find a church and talk to a pastor
I’ve seen God and Jesus remove depression and anxiety in the blink of an eye.

Vitamin D pills. Lack of Vitamin D can cause depression. Take some vitamin B in the morning for an energy boost to get you going too but Vitamin D is key.

Work out. Jog, crossfit, yoga, hike, lift weights, or even Ninja Warrior, but do something. Each of these have little clubs, groups, etc.

Read More. Escape in a book.

Get off social media.

When I was contemplating suicide, my biggest problem was that I kept everything bottled up inside. I didn't ask for help, and didn't want anyone's help. You getting on here and posting about it is a big step! Don't be ashamed/afraid to talk to friends/family or even a doctor.

Find something you enjoy that takes your mind off of what is bringing you down. Don't be afraid to get out and be with others that make you happy. Don't be afraid to do something different. Be open to change!

I think medicine can help, but I would try everything possible before going to that.

Life is too short to not enjoy yourself. Depression is real, and what it can do to your mind is downright terrifying. I've been through it, and I'm glad to say I'm in a much better place now because I didn't give up, and I let people in to help me. Just know that this WILL get better, you just have to believe in yourself.

This might be considered different than depression but what about always feeling pessimistic or down on everything? I have what most people would consider a very easy and stress free life (single and no kids). I get in these moods mostly at work where I am just very negative to everything. I really have no good reasons to be that way.

I've never been through it. With luck, I never will be, but, just about everybody goes through some depression sometime in life.

With many chronic cases, the problem is severe and can contribute to suicide and early death.

I am pretty sure that when I am old and dying I will be depressed.
