Agreed, but I doubt many people nationally could name the mascot of these schools

Princeton, Grambling, Tennessee State, Savannah, Jackson State, Texas Southern, and Towson.

Animal mascots are usually shared by multiple schools. Bears, Eagles, Bulldogs, Huskies, Cougars, etc.

Not many schools do. The list is fairly short:

P5's
Michigan State
Oregon
Baylor

G5's
Tulane
Marshall
North Texas
South Florida
UAB
Hawaii
Colorado State

(Feel free to add to this list if I've missed any)

ETA: Additional teams. Hat-tips to Chitown_Badger and BCLA.

LSU's colors were supposed to be blue and white but the store was out of blue ribbons. There was purple and gold left over from Mardi Gras and the rest is history.

Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian also.

One of these used to play in hand-me-down uniforms from LSU. Can't remember which, but I think it was SFA.

No forest or dark green around.
You must not watch Thanksgiving college hoops tournaments to know University of Alaska at Anchorage has sweet forest green and gold colors.

I bought a cap up there, 10 or 12 years ago, but can't find it now.

The Dallas Stars used a darker green back when they won the Stanley Cup. The design of their current uniforms is better, but I wish the green was darker.

Red is the most common color in the SEC. Half of the schools have some version of red:

South Carolina
Georgia
Bama
Arky
Ole Miss
Miss State
A&M
