PRO-MAXXING CONSUMERISM - Most disgusting thing about modern society?

Most disgusting thing about modern society? Maybe not, but right behind being fat.
I think we can thank social media influencers for all these micro trends and daily FOMO for the weak.

"Consumerism PRO MAX" perfectly captures the modern era of hyper-consumerism, where buying things is no longer just about filling a need—it is a lifestyle, an identity, and a continuous feedback loop driven by technology.

The Hyper-Consumerism Ecosystem
• Algorithms that Know You: Social media feeds double as highly personalized digital storefronts. Algorithms predict what you want before you even realize you want it, making shopping practically frictionless.
• The "Micro-Trend" Cycle: Fast fashion and viral aesthetics (like "Quiet Luxury," "Tomato Girl," or "Cottagecore") change every few weeks. This creates artificial urgency, making last month's purchases feel instantly outdated.
• Frictionless Spending: Features like "One-Click Buy," Apple Pay, and "Buy Now, Pay Later" (BNPL) services detach the immediate pain of losing money from the thrill of acquiring a new item.
• Haul Culture & De-influencing: Content creators unboxing hundreds of dollars of merchandise perpetuate the idea that massive consumption is normal. Even "de-influencing" (telling people what not to buy) often just redirects spending to alternative products.

One of the worst characters on TD. At least most of the classic trolls were funny. This shite is just retarded…. Again.

The guys amassing hundreds of fragrances watching TikTok influencers are on another level.

As I've said for years, we have a huge Want vs Need problem in this country.

I’d say at this point, being grotesquely fat barely breaks into the top 15 most disgusting things. We thought we had it bad when childhood obesity was the biggest problem and look at us now.

The number of brand-new 110K Expeditions down our street is alarming. Like, once someone purchased 1, all the women down the street needed to trade in their Tahoe with 80K left to pay.

I dunno, I think writing and reposting AI slop articles is right up there.

No, it's not the most disgusting thing about modern society.
It's the cultural, moral, and spiritual rot.

The solution is to make sure you never have to hear made up bullshite like this and ever even know what it is. All you have to do is not pay attention or give a shite about it.
For example I had no idea this was even a thing, and I am perfectly fine.
You know we have a badass society when being fat and buying too much shite are considered problems. A mere 100 years ago, starving or not having enough shite were actual threats to a large portion of the population of the whole fricking world.
You live in what is unequivocally the best time to ever live in the best country that has ever existed. Relax. Statistically you’ve won the lottery several times over by existing here today while making up problems to complain about on a device that would have been considered magic just a blink of an eye ago historically.
