Hammond area.
I know some doctors, judges, business people, and UGA athletic director graduated from Hammond High. I also know they all went to private or SLU lab school K-8.
Not all public’s are equal, even in the same town.

And private school is definitely not a bunch of rich kids.

Privates near me
SSA
St Paul’s
Hannan
STA
And a bunch of other catholic schools towards BR
I’m not saying they don’t give good education. But is it really worth the $14,000 a year for it?

The education is NOT the same except maybe BR Magnet High School but that place is a liberal indoctrination camp.
This is the issue in today's world. Even if your child is surrounded by decent kids at a public school, the extremely woke shite being pushed in public schools today is a non-starter. All these parents thought their kids were getting some wholesome education at their white suburban school to find out 12-year-olds were being taught gay sex acts.

If I have kids, they are going to private school
I went to a “great” public school but the kids who went to the nearby catholic school simply blew away my classmates (on average). Even if we ended up at the same college, the post grad results were quite different (again, on average).

Both kids in private school. We are a secular family and oldest daughter became a hard core catholic and is going to do missionary work this summer.
So private s school will push them in other ways. But I think it's better than the peer pressure in public school.

I'm not as familiar with Hammond area schools.
I'll say this as a general rule for Louisiana. There's very few public schools in Louisiana that will be able to hold up to the private school education.
I'll tell you my own experience, although it was going from a boarding school in Vicksburg, MS to a public school in BR. I went to boarding school in 9th and 10th grade. Because of some outside factors, I ended up back in BR for my junior year, but bc it was so late, I didn't have time to get into any other schools. My neighborhood went from being a Woodlawn district to being in Tara's district.
To make a long story short, I learned everything I was being taught in my junior year at Tara in 8th and 9th grade. It wasn't a good situation and me being young and immature, I thought it was stupid for me to just sit there and have to learn everything again, so I dropped out. I scored really high on my GED, so I was still able to go to college, but looking back, not exhausting every resource to get in to another school was one of the biggest life changing experiences/decisions I made and not for the better.

Per your post, it sounds like you should go public.
I’m going private because the education is better, and it will limit the exposure of my child to other children who have idiots for parents.
ETA: I also know someone who is involved in science curriculum design for the state and he’s a grooming piece of shite liberal that lets politics infiltrate every aspect of his life. I don’t want my child influenced by that loser.

My child is worth all the money in the world to me. No question in that, But the money could be spent doing other things for him rather than the K-12. I’m not saying I’m against it, I just wanted to see what everyone else thought.

Should be closer to $10k. Where are you getting your info?
Posted on 3/4/23 at 7:51 am to CeauxPilot
That’s up to you
For me, the public average act is 24 and the private is 26. That doesn’t warrant private school
But everyone’s situation is different

I was definitely around 14k for the 8th grade a few years ago in BR. It gets more expensive as they progress. The "cheapest" private school in BR is more than 10k for HS.
Catholic - 12-13k
St Michaels - 11-12k
Parkview - 15-16k
Dunham - 21k
Episcopal - 20k

There are tons of videos from school board meetings where parents are reading books available to their kids. Extremely graphic sex acts. Mostly gay.
And woke Catholic schools are not the norm but do exist. I haven't seen even a hint of that shite at my kid's school and if they did there would be a huge backlash.
I have heard the Academy in BR has gone woke. That's disappointing to hear.

In North Texas (DFW suburbs) we pay high property taxes to insure our public schools are top notch. Probably what you would pay for private in other areas.
Most of my kid's teachers have degrees from major universities and many have their masters.
The opportunity to get a good education is there but it's up to the kid to put the effort in and make grades, the school offers AP classes and dual credit (where you can earn college credits).
The school also has over 3500 kids in it so there's plenty of opportunity to F up too.
Mine is teetering on the fence

There are no good public options. The number one rated public school in Louisiana is Ben Franklin and they pretty much churn out nothing but communist. Smart communist but commies none the less. Public schools are run by the GOVERNMENT. Do you trust your child’s education with the GOVERNMENT? Run by unionized wanna stay home commie teachers ? Cmon man
All government teachers are just lazy waiting to retire biding their time or if they are dedicated they are master indoctrinators to communism. Lose-lose

My wife's experience as an English prof at UNO.
All of the girls who came from local Catholic schools were instant A's The rest not so much.
When I lived in Houston and kids were in the Spring Branch Independent School District which was a great one in the area, one of my son's friends after moving from NYC transferred to St. John's and his book list for Summer reading was much higher in 5th grade. It was a Classic Liberal education at the private school. Thus, it was about having background and thinking skills. The other kid ended up being more advanced educationally than my son who scored 1200 when he took the SAT in 5th grade.
