Pre-Internet, what did office people do all day?

During down time, slow days, etc., what did office types do all day at work to pass the time?
I'd say the average worker spends 2 hours of their day surfing the net and some a lot more. With phones now it is even easier without the worry of someone 'watching' your traffic.
For some reason, I figured the OT was the right crowd for this question.

I actually had a job in the 90s where they turned off the internet for all employees. This was 99/00.
I probably worked more in that job but that was b.c I was young and didn't realize that you didn't actually have to do that much to keep your job.
But anyway, we would go to the cafeteria and get coffee and talk. Or talk in a conference room, or take 2 hour lunches. Or go work out.
