Its not unpopular on here although it is wrong.

An executive stay-at-home order is literally the most restrictive thing the government can do and have it be constitutional. What else would you like? Seriously. Take a second and brainstorm. What else could the state possibly do that is more restrictive of individual liberties?
You proved your own point to be false. The government is still following the constitution. If they did something unconstitutional, I would call it Draconian.

Roughly half the COVID-19 patients admitted to ICU are dying, as are about 2/3s of those placed on ventilators. Experts expect 4.5 million Americans to be admitted to ICUs if 40% of Americans get infected (a high rate for a pandemic). Of these 4.5 million, perhaps 3 million would fall in the fat part of the bell curve that overwhelms our ICU capacity. Of those 3 million, about 1 million would get ample ICU treatment (that’s a guess). Sources:
Guardian article supporting the OP
Heealth Affairs article on rates of hospital admission etc..
So about 2 million ICU patients would be left untreated if we just let the virus run its course. Assuming we pick the least likely to survive from whom care is withheld, that those would have a higher than 2/3 chance of dying (let’s use 90%), and that they all die if we leave them without ICU care, then the price we’d pay is 10% of 2 million people. That’s 200,000 dead. Worth it?
I'd like to look over your proposed numbers a bit, but your point is certainly fair.

You are certainly allowed to disagree, but I'd love to hear your reasons why.

The "collateral damage" would be folks going to the hospital because of heart attacks, strokes, car accidents, etc. who need emergency and potentially ICU care. If the hospitals are jammed because of Covid-19, they're not available for those who don't have Covid-19.

The best course of action would be to let the virus run its course while taking whatever measures can be reasonably taken to(a) isolate those most at-risk from the virus infecting them and (b) to take measures, if they do get infected, to ensure that they are treated swiftly and with appropriate measures.
Prove your commitment and self infect.

current approach is not actually saving lives. It is simply extending some for a few months.
If it prevents hospitals from being overwhelmed it does save lives

There is no way to stop the virus from spreading, but the current measures being taken are an attempt to mitigate the spreading.
Also, not make the same mistake Italy & Spain committed. By "letting it play out" and not attempting to slow down, the consequence would be sudden outbreaks and overcrowd hospitals. Italy and Spain's high death rates were caused by hospitals being over run, and not having enough equipment to treat all critically ill.
Considering the absolute monstrosity of this situation, I think US is doing quite well. IMHO

In fact, you don't need any more than 21 days, and that's an outer estimate. After 21 days, every muh fuh'r that caught this the minute before quarantines went into effect is either now-immune or dead. Going a 22nd day will not make the first guy any more immune, and it won't make the second guy any more dead.
Here's aflaw on this argument: China is making claims that it can be caught twice. So we aren't getting immune to it.
And if you catch it once, it can damage your lungs. Twice may kill you.
If a second wave hits because people complain about having to stay at home and force re-openings too early, we could possibly see a significantly larger amount of deaths.

Has this been proven? I know there was that non-peer-reviewed study based on 12 patients. Has there been more since?

It's unpopular because it's dangerously stupid.

Then follow Sweden, because this is what they're doing. We'll see.

think the thought by the pros is that the same amount will get the virus but if you spread it out over time it won’t overwhelm them hospitals and they can treat people more easily and have the supplies needed.
theres that and the fear of death.
the idea of somehow saving people for another year or five. thats on the relatives and the medical community.

Everyone who agrees should also sign a waiver for willingly passing on access to an ICU bed for coronavirus infection.
Then I would have no problem with this plan.
I’d happily pass along my ICU bed if this were the case.

If you can’t comprehend the operative facts at this point you are just too fricking stupid to be worth saving.
How the frick does this idiocy persist? How many times and by how many people does the factual basis of all this crap have to be clearly explained for this abject stupidity to go away?

Talk to Sweden. Look, I get that it's a minority view, but don't come on here spouting this type of rhetoric as if there's no reasonable basis for taking the position.
