Step-daughter, one of 3, came for the family Christmas get together. Showed up an hour late, and didn't bring the grand daughter because "it was easier not to". Then she trots in with a bunch of shite to make and take to her husband's parents later. Upset my wife. Bit my tongue hard not to call her a POS to her face. Grand daughter is 6 months old, had a pretty bad medical condition the night she came home from the hospital after being born. My wife, who is a nurse, was staying with them to help out, and pretty much saved her life.

I’m the only one who has to travel back to town for Christmas.
Got here Thursday night. Go to my parents, mom says “your sister isn’t talking to me, don’t know why.”
Run over to my sister’s to drop off presents to wrap, sister says “mom isn’t talking to me, don’t know why.”
Two days later, the stalemate continues. Briefly considered playing peacemaker, but decided I’ll just stay downstairs and destroy my nephews in foosball.

Only bummer right now is I found out I am allergic to Timothy Hay, oh and I am not sure if my wife bought a rabbit for herself or the kids... The kids picked a rabbit out of pets that can live in a cage since their dog died last month and we really don't want another dog until my youngest matures, he is 8 but non verbal, autistic and doesn't do well with dogs. He seems OK with the rabbit and other animals, he just learned dogs take his food and he does not like that.

My wife and I were supposed to travel back to my hometown with my dad and sister to spend Christmas with my extended family (Dad and sister originally planned the trip months ago, I just decided to go around the first of December so we could all be together for Christmas).
My dad randomly decided he wasn't going 2 hours before we were supposed to leave Thursday so I decided we wouldn't either due to the winter storm and all, no reason to make a lot of effort to drive 10 hours through snow to just spend Christmas with extended family who I'm not really close to, plus I had some work stuff to do.
So I went ahead and told everyone I wasn't coming.
Dad flips out, says I'm just making excuses to back out (even though he backed out first), got mad, and went anyway.
My wife and I just stayed home and now I'm the bad guy.

Nothing this year. I was scheduled to be on shift but I called in sick and some poor baw is taken up my spot at the plant.

A few take aways from this thread.
- I can relate to everyone with shite brother in law. They seem more common than I guess I realized.
- The best thing to do is not have Christmas with extended family. I cut that out years ago and there is a lot less drama. I actually like a laid back Christmas. And when its cold like it is, I like to be warm in my house.
