Westinghouse running 24/7/365 since at least the early 1950s at my mom's house. Everything stored in there is still ice cold and aside from the plastic cover over the card guide (which we broke as kids) its damn near mint.

I have thrown away at least 2 shoeboxes full of '20 year guaranteed' LED bulbs in the last 5 years meanwhile this motherfricker right here...

These 1981 Maytags are like "BITCH, we'll keep cleaning the frick out of your clothes for the next 50 years unlike that LG that required a $600 repair 13 months after you bought it".

I'd save that fridge. Awesome design.

Freaking dishwashers. Does no one build a dishwasher that lasts longer than five years any longer?

Our oven in my house is from 1975. Still works like a champ although it is fairly ugly. I've always been hesitant to replace it because it's probably still better than anything I can buy now.

Planned obsolescence is a real thing. And yes, companies do conspire to plan the obsolescence of their products. The light bulb was one of the first products manufactured to not last too long.

I have a KitchenAid that's going on 10 years - bought it because it was the top ranked by Consumer Reports. It's built like a tank and is quiet as frick. Cost a shitload tho.

Those appliances have regressed due to where they are made now.

Education

Education 75-100 years ago was more advanced and taught out kids better than what we have today and I am a teacher.

Every year they change what and how we have to teach and every year it gets worse.

Manufacturing

American businesses offshored manufacturing and are now suffering the calamitous effects of chasing cheap labor

Tube and solid state stereos in the 70s were far superior to what came after in the next 40 years or so...there are exceptions of course, but in general.

yet these same corporations lecture us endlessly about racism and climate change.

BITCH, building a refrigerator that only lasts 13 months and promptly goes into a landfill for metal ant plastic and dumps its freon into the air might be a bigger problem..
