Anything good about the city other than its proximity to NOLA and Mississippi coast?
Good schools, good sports programs, good place to raise a family.

I’ve heard it’s pretty congested owing to poor city planning and explosive growth of north shore.
I havent had a problem.

Good places to live?
Eden Isles and Oak Harbour out near the lake are nice but the school district isnt as good if you have kids, so private school might be a better option.
Pretty much anywhere east of military road will be good and houses will have a better resale due to Northshore school district. If you have kids and want a good public school this would be a good choice.

The OT hates on Slidell a lot because it was on Live PD and posters just parrot all the other tards on here, but it’s really not a bad place to live. The schools are good, it has some good restaurants, and the crime isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. If you want zero crime go live with all the White Zinfandel drinking pussies in Mandeville. The biggest downside is there isn’t much to do in the way of entertainment. On the plus side you aren’t very far from New Orleans/ MS gulf coast/ Baton Rouge. There is also some excellent hunting and fishing in the area

Country Club off Robert road is good. Nice houses. Some on a golf course. Great schools and centrally located.

I don’t know your life, but I’d think outside the box and consider living in New Orleans proper if I worked in Slidell. Reverse commute traffic isn’t that bad.

People make fun of Slidell because it’s an incredibly ugly city and constantly makes the news for heroin busts and Florida man activities.

live in Nola and commute, you would be going in reverse so traffic would be light

Also, the south side schools are really not bad.

Don't.
You can thank me later.

Slidell... It Was Great In The 90's

All of those options are $500k+ for the most part
Nah. You can get very nice houses in some of those subdivisions in the low $300-400K range, particularly in The Landings and Turtle Creek, which are in a very good school district. I’ve lived in that area for 16 years now and have experienced zero crime as well.
In the 16 uears I’ve lived here, the only “bad” stuff I’ve heard about Slidell was from this board. Of course, any city will have small pockets that are bad. My wife works at multiple schools in different areas of Slidell (ESL teacher so she jumps from school to school), and when I told her about Slidell’s reputation on the OT, she just laughed. Totally oblivious to any of this apparent “bad” stuff that seems to characterize Slidell. It’s a nice place to live and the amenities of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are just a short drive away. It’s a nice place to live and raise a family.

None of that is true, but okay..

Slidell gets a bad rap on the OT for whatever reason
I grew up in Metairie but I visit Slidell several times a year due to family being there (live in DFW). It’s reputation is deserved. Sure there are nice pockets to Slidell but it is not worth it to live there to me when Mandeville or Covington is a far superior option. I would probably choose Pearl River before Slidell

Yikes, you all make it sound so wonderful.
The job is actually out in the hinterland down I-59 into Mississippi and so commuting from NOLA or Mandeville would be impractical.
The money is good but I am definitely gun shy

You should pay attention to the people that gave you actual info on schools/neighborhoods. The other people really don't know what they are talking about.

Don’t know what kind of job you’re taking or the money you’re making, but Slidell isn’t as bad as the OT makes it sound. Eden Isle isn’t a bad option or if you’ve got OT baller money it would be worth it to look around on Carr Drive. The fishing and crabbing are incredible in that area. Old Spanish trail toward the Chef has some nice options on the water as well.

Don't be. The people bashing Slidell don't live here.

What are your other options? How do taxes compare? Schools?
