After 26 years my position was “eliminated” today. It’s the first job I’ve ever been “let go” from. The worst part was having to tell my kids. The best part? A great severance package and hunting season about to start.

frick em!

It will all be for the better. Friend just got laid off after 35 years and he’s loving it.

Sorry man.
Don’t sit back too long.

Can make it harder to pick up your next gig.

Any idea it was coming?

Yes, I did. They had been cutting my departmental budget yearly for about 5 years.

I’ve had a run of luck the last two years. Last year on this day I was told to let my entire staff go and then was there till Oct 30th when they shut the doors. Now this company I’m with laid off 70% of its workforce and imposed and 40% pay reduction to me. O joy of Oil and Gas!!!

Been there myself, it's a shitty feeling at first. I was only with the company for 3+ years and put in a lot of hard work, can't imagine 26.

I collected unemployment for a few months while evaluating my life, and realized that I actually really hated what I was doing for a career. The unemployment allowed me to take my time and decide what I really wanted to do next. It was the best decision I've ever made, I'm infinitely happier and more stable.

Use your severance to take your time and find something that'll make you happy, if you still want to work. Even if you make less than before, you won't regret it if you enjoy what you're doing.

I think they fired you because you have no idea how to use the quote function or film outdoors in landscape.

One of my brothers had 28.5 years with a great company and they eliminated his level’s position. Bad, but he got 2.5 years severance pay! Dayaaaam boy!

Been there before. My company got bought out, then a year later, I get called into my director's office and notice one of the HR staff sitting with him.

Pretty sure I asked to see the severance package before they even told me my position had been eliminated.
