re: Pork, Black Eyed Peas, Cabbage, and Cornbread… Is that the general consensus for NYD?

Never heard this one before. We’ve always done greens.

I’m making a loaded baked potato soup with cheddar bay biscuits.

Winter is hog slaughtering time, greens and cabbage are cool weather crops, always dried beans and cornmeal on the shelf, it all fits together naturally.

Eat all of these for breakfast, then go see how many elevators you can clear out around lunch time.

That is the traditional meal but we don't have it at our house. My dad's birthday is today and he always asks for steak, salad, and shrimp cocktail.

Cabbage rolls, corn bread, and fried chicken.
No particular reason. I’m just hungry.

It is in my house. I've already smothered the cabbage, have the black-eyed peas cooked, along with the rice and am getting ready to put the corned beef on the stove.
Instead of cornbread, the wife picked up a loaf of Jewish Rye to go with the meal. I may even slice some corned beef up to make Ruebens tomorrow.

Collards done right, like my wife does them, are objectively better.

Well then I’d better get ready to place a deposit on my Lamborghini order.

We’ ve only ever done the black eyed peas for health & cabbage for wealth.
Never heard the pork thing, heard the cornbread thing a few years ago. Seems repetitive

Never heard of cornbread being anything. It just goes with the other stuff.

That’s what we do, but collards instead of cabbage and have sauerkraut as well

We don't care for cooked cabbage so we have egg rolls (with cabbage in them.)

A propah New Year’s Day meal without greens is , well, uncivilized.
Black eye peas for luck.
Turnip greens for money.
Cheers to all
