there is an elevated rail road crossing the bonet care spillway that the creosote tar pilings caught fire and burned down in feb 2016. see the video here LINK /

9 months later the tracks were repaired and usable and a brand new all concrete replacement elevated tracks began construction. they were onsight with cranes and the full bridge tressle construction machine in place and beginning work in november of 2016. the bridge tressle construction frame looks like a damn oil rig laying on its side and it spans the pilings as they pour new ones and create the tops for them. think building the causeway but with RR tracks instead of road surface.

well here it is a full 3 years later, and they have built a grand total of ........ 1/4 mile of tressles

the spillway is 4 miles across so at this rate, on the pace they are moving, it will be another 45 years minimum to finish it

stupidity and waste in government aggravates me and this is why it bugs me but its most likely the rail road footing the bill and running the show, but damn somebody needs to get fired and get their asses in gear

im not sure why it bugs me but it does. i drive passed it often and for some reason today i just felt like ranting about it

They have built that 1/4 mile in about 2 months.

I'm sure it takes time to have an opening and move and erect all that equipment. Plus materials have to be built. Permits and such as well. Couldn't work while the spillway was open either.

wrong, more like you just noticed that "something" got built

i drive passed that shite about once a week and nothing is happening

or do you think they build it during the day and it vanishes overnight because they havent moved at all

It took them a long time erect the structure on the end. Set the base for that whole crawling structure.

I pass by 4-6 times per week. They aren't flying along, but they didn't really start moving until about 2 months ago.

For a second I thought you were involved in this project.

It's difficult for the average citizen to make an educated assessment of a project based on seeing it for maybe 30 seconds a day.

I don’t know anything about that project, but I do imagine it is shut down anytime the river is approaching flood stage and the spillway is open. So subtract all that time from the 3 years.

If you ever want to REALLY see government money go to waste, work on a government contracted project.

With that said, who knows what's going on. A government funded project in Louisiana.. No telling what the hell is going on.

Boy if you only searched before acting like an idiot.

1. they aren't doing 4 miles, just 2 miles .
2. the spillway opening shut down the project for months.

I asked this a while back and you should have searched. Stupid.
My dumb arse Thread asking about this project last July.

Didn't they basically shut this project down from January until July or so because of the spillway being opened?

How is the project doing based on the overall schedule that was released?

Yes. I asked about it in a thread and that's exactly why it stood still for months. I saw some weird shite last spring when a crane on the tracks was dropping HUGE sand bags in the water just south of the bridge.
I wondered if they were trying to figure out how to get work done with spillway open.

Regardless, they are humming along now. It's an incredible thing to see in action if you get the chance to pass by when they are moving/driving pilings.

That's not a government project. The RR is building that.

right, a 4 month old thread

just because you included wrong info in your post doesnt make it true. its being built along side the 4 mile stretch of old tracks and will replace the old structure to be torn down when its finished.

or do you think they are building half a bridge stretch ending in the middle of the spillway where trains just crash into the water huh. the bridge is 4.1 miles long not 2 miles

its replacing the entire 4 mile stretch because it has to. for one reason its a different set of tracks. secondly there arent connecting brand new concrete tressles to old rotten fire damaged wooden tressles half way across the spillway because it is structurally unsafe and unsound

A fire rebuild also takes a lot of time for inspection of the remaining parts to establish if they can support the rig needed to rebuild it, if they need supporting for construction, etc. shite doesn’t happen overnight bud
