There's some poetry in there about Pontiac, Michigan, recalled VW Diesels, and the screw-up of imploding a sports facility past its prime.

The new stadiums and facilities in downtown Detroit are amazing. I can see why they don't want the use the old Silverdome anymore.

I thought this implosion was going to take months, unlike to Georgia Dome, which took seconds.

The beauty is that SOME of the shaped charges went off, so some of the support columns have been cut and the structure weakened.
Some poor SOB is going to have to go in there and inspect a structurally questionable building to decide what to do next.
Hope that life insurance is paid up!

I was actually impressed with Detroit on my last visit. They have made a lot of improvements to Greek Town, Commerca Park, and the area between Downtown and Wayne State on Woodward. Hopefully they can continue improving that area along Woodward and move the gentrification out from there.
It will be a while before anyone calls Detroit "nice", but it has some fantastic suburbs and a great downtown/mid town. I'd definitely rather live there than in Philly or Baltimore.
