I agree, in theory, and only if we could operate in a "pure," non-corrupt manner. But the impact of media, private money, and everything else that goes on, sometimes religion can be a shelter.

And you can hold this belief is you also belief we need to make ALL attempts to get corporate interests out of government policy. Many things influence legislation, and religion is probably the least of those concerns.

Wouldnt you rather accept God and get to know him before the end of your days?

....is this a troll? do people still use pascals wager as an argument these days?

Well, it's the second most practiced religion in the world. I'd say that's pretty legit.

Religion teaches you to live for something outside of and greater than yourself. As religion loses influence in society, people become consumed with self-gratifying and self-destructive urges and desires driven by ego.

Oh, the argument that religions have been using for thousands of years. Such an easy way to control people that can't think for themselves.

I don't think an infant is born with any morality. Its taught, and nurtured. And it's based on the belief systems of parents and those surrounding the infant.

I wish I knew.

But our country is so far in debt; we will never get out of it. It's just going to get worse

One thing that is often lost in these debates on religion and morality is the vast majority (> 95%) of trashy degenerates in this country are Christians.

Yeah that is so absurd and so common. So many things wrong with it from a Christian perspective.

You can call it what you want. Atheism is a religeon, non-believers are a religion. Just like Jesus said, when 1 or more are gathered in my name I am there.... Dude wasn't playin around.

I would put more of the blame on corporate power and influence over governments economically and politically and the manner in which it has conditioned western humanity and society to believe that the only thing that matters in life is upward mobility and the consumption of more and more worthless stuff. Deep in their soul, people know there is more to life but they have been conditioned at birth to believe that true happiness in life comes from a great job, big house, social status etc. The mass of people have fallen for this lie hook, line and sinker and are constantly chasing after something that they will never find. There is a deeper reason for life and unless you come to tap that deeper essence you will never understand it. And I'm not talking about subscribing to this or that religion although they can certainly lead people to it. But once you find it, it eventually leads you out of religion, ironically.

I do like the throwaway "Hope," at the end. This kind of statement will have approximately 0 impact on any normal person, religious or not. And perhaps continue to make atheists more fervent in their belief because it's dumb. And they don't want to be dumb.
