They have too much free time and all the money they need to feed their demons.

Work is good for the soul.

You sure you've ever even had a real one? There is no sum of money that would replace my friendships. Money buys a lot, but not the stuff that actually matters. Money has no value in the arena of love. If u think it does, you've already proven the point that money and happiness are disconnected.

would take the fun out of the game of life really. No challenge anymore. Just using money on frivolous and possibly damaging things in a race to spend it all before I die. People hitting me up for money all the time. Even people who loved you before will just not be able to avoid asking you for money. You'd start to feel used. Wondering if anyone cares about you anymore.

I think a lot of people honk celebrities had the goal of being rich when they started, when in reality they just do what they like to do, making tons of money in the process, and the excess money ends up creating problems, not joy.

I meant that in response to new friends hanging out with you just because of having money. I should've worded that better.

If you're a millionaire, you can just go out and buy stuff or take a vacation whenever you want. Or go date someone better looking than you. Or you can go for a ride in your luxury car. I just don't get how rich people get depressed. Try living in a normal persons shoes where you barely get by.

So you assume depressing is only related to the amount of material items a person has? It doesn't work that way my boy.

Depression doesn't really discriminate. Someone could have everything they ever imagined, but if they suffer from depression, it doesn't matter what they have. Its a feeling, its something that can't always be controlled. And it doesn't matter what anyone tells you, nothing helps.

You really don't understand depression.

I'm sure it's a lovely experience getting followed by tabloids looking to snap a pic any time you pick your nose; or being asked to take a picture or sign an autograph every time you go out and do anything.

I would hate to be a celebrity. Being an author would probably alright though

ETA: not to mention never knowing what the people around you are really after, would despise that.

Mental illness doesn't discriminate based on your income or popularity.

You can have fame and looks and still be mentally unstable and insecure. It's better to have inner joy and peace of mind that to live in a million dollar home. I have lived in a million dollar home in Houston and I was crying in pain over rejections and depression. You can't throw money at every problem. Life can be a rough journey. Peacefulness is priceless. Having family who will hug you and give you a Sunday meal while watching football is love.

It can make life a lot less stressful (if managed correctly), but that's it. You might be able to buy whatever you want, but people who buy things to fill a void in their life.. It is, at best, a temporary fix.

Money doesn't stop the family issues that people deal with, it doesn't stop tragic events from happening in one's life, etc. And it sure doesn't play a factor in someone being depressed.

Hmm. The miserable mountain climber at the base is better off than the one at the summit because the one at the base can still climb.

I think I know why: creative people tend to be more intelligent than non-creative people. I firmly believe that stupid people are on average much happier than smart people are.

Whenever I was with a certain friend and we would pass by people sitting outside in the middle of the day drinking he would always say "I envy those people. They wake up, spend the day outside drinking and that is enough to make them as happy as they can be. They are too dumb to care about anything. As for as they are concerned, they got it made".

If any of you are truly interested in learning more about suicide then follow the link to a Ted talk on the subject from a guy that worked at the GOlden Gate Bridge and encouraged over 100 of people that either were going to jump or actually did jump. Very interesting if you have 15 minutes to spare.

LINK

This is a very good one too. It's very personal from the mind of a depressed and successful person. (a stand up comic)

I don't mean someone that's acquired wealth. I'm talking about someone that's always had money. How do you know who's actually your friend and who's only friends with you because of your status? I'm sure that fricks with a lot of rich people, while others don't care.

So after reading most of this thread, a lot of you guys think that rich people have mental problems. Yep, only happens to the rich. Maybe if people would step away from drugs that they can afford because they're rich, maybe they wouldn't be loonies. I hear a lot of people say they looked for something to fix a void, and until they found God, nothing would feel that void. Instead of committing suicide, get right with God, have peace, be close to family, and love others

Just don't act like you have any money. When you get a lot of money there isn't a ruole that comes with it that says to buy the house, car, boat, etc. that screams "I have money"
