Spinoff on the Plaquemine thread.
Best: Lake Charles Refining (small, privately owned local company)
Worst: Indorama (Will blow up at any moment)
Should say the LC/Sulphur/Westlake area.
Strangely I don't think there's any big refineries/plants in Lafayette.

I’m assuming it has to be about access to ports.

I think that’s going to depend on what you do at the plant and what unit you’re in (if you’re at a big plant).
I work at one of the bigger facilities in Environmental, and I love it, but there are other groups in the same plant that I’d never, ever want to be a part of.

Not a big enough waterway to get in and out.

this, really this.
i am in engineering in a large facility and its pretty awesome, but operations can be very hard, same with maintenance as its an older plant.
overall the worst is indoroma though for sure. shite company and dangerous.
best depends on department. Most of the big ones are pretty close in pay and benifits so just depends. If i had to pick just one....prolly the OG lyondell basell on 108. Very low safety risk, great pay and many great people out there and part of a huge company.

dunno about that. i been on both sides and yea raises are bigger and better at contractors but you max out quickly and benifits suck compared the plants.

Instrument tech here. I’ve worked for a few as a contractor, and I’m on permanently at one.
Indorama is the worst.
As a contractor, Citgo sucked.
P66 is good
Westlake south wasn’t bad

when i was a Pm for a contractor i worked at all and this is pretty spot on. All the Westlake plants are pretty good, LB is good. Sasol was great, dunno about now as i have heard it wasnt. Lotte is great, biolab sucks, firestone sucks. all the lng plants are pretty awesome.

I have a buddy that is an operator there, and while he likes it, the pay is pretty bad. I’ve heard good things about Westlake, Lyondell, Sasol, Entergy, and the LNG plants if that counts.
