Example - when I started dieting/exercise I was over 330 lbs. I've been busting my arse and am nearly 100 lbs lost. Now I want to start putting on some muscle, so in a few months I'll be switching to a gym that doesn't have restrictions on deadlifts and such. PF is really a starter gym, and also a gym where in shape poor people go because they can't afford anything else.
You honestly don't think you can build muscle at Planet Fitness?

Planet Fitness is no place for a natural hard-gainer like Saint Amant Steve, but it'll do for you mere mortals.

There are no cuddlers in PF.

I have heard that a lot of Gold's gyms are transitioning to more of a Planet Fitness type model.

When you sign up, you can tell them that you identify yourself as a woman and they'll let you change in the women's locker room.

Oh I know you can, but with the restrictions on equipment it's kind of pointless. Bench presses, squats, and deadlifting on a smith machine? No thanks.

It is odd that I see a ton of bodybuilder types at the one I go to. They must be figuring out something.

Don't grunt, strain, or lift any weight of any kind, and you will fit in.

I go to PF a lot now since my roommate has a membership and he can bring a guest for free. The perk of having a gym partner to keep you accountable outweighs the negatives, so long as I'm not paying for it.
I'd never give them my hard-earned money to work out there.
First and foremost, the fact that they do pizza days, doughnut days, and bagel days floors me every time I see it. Especially coming from the perspective of someone who has lost a lot of weight and is still in the process of losing weight.. The gym is like the last bastion of health where I can go to work out with no temptations. It's solely a place I can go to better myself and my health............unless I go to PF. It literally angers me because it's completely counter-intuitive and ridiculous. My skinny roommate doesn't see the issue and just says "just don't eat the food then".. and I don't. It's just a principle thing. You don't put that kind of food in a gym any more than you put weed or heroin in a rehab facility.
Second: No barbells. Smith machines, dumbbells, and machines only. I like to squat and deadlift and I refuse to do those on a smith machine. I do use the smith machine to bench and shoulder press, but I use the dumbbells more often.
The whole grunting thing is a bit of a fallacy. Yes, if you're making a lot of noise and being obnoxious they will sound the lunk alarm. You won't be allowed to scream or grunt obnoxiously. No, normal grunting and/or breathing will not get you kicked out.

$10 a month = more money for roids, protein shakes, and tanning beds.

I almost forgot, don't you get the use of free tanning beds and massage chairs if you pay $19.99, along with being able to take guests for free?
