Don’t really care what the map reflects. Why would you ever allow any object to fly into the landing path at any time? With all of the airspace out there it doesn’t make sense.

Pilots.
Do they have kind of runways in the sky the follow? Why do they ever intersect?

Russian figure skaters and coaches Shishkova and Naumov were on board,
They are married and former World Champion pairs skaters. The information I have found is that they’ve both lived in the United States for the past 25+ years, and were coaches for the U.S. team.
There are mixed reports whether their son Maxim, a current American skater, was on the flight.

There are approach paths, and there are airways. Airways intersect all the time. Approach paths are monitored and controlled by the approach controllers and the tower.
This was as simple. The base probably had a LOA with the airport that it could establish comms and cross the approach path with clearance. Tower asked if they saw the CRJ, he said yes, they told him to pass behind the CRJ. The heli pilot was probably looking at the wrong plane and thought he was clear.
I don’t know about the Blackhawk, but I’m sure the plane was getting traffic alerts, but you get them a lot down low close to an airport. The pilots are really counting on the tower to keep the separation. Tower appeared to do exactly what he was supposed to, the heli pilot caused this one.

You should never take your shoes off on a plane unless you are in business/first and have slippers on

You either didn’t read my post past the first line or you didn’t understand it.

Unless additional info comes out, this seems like the best explanation so far.
A talking head expert on Fox this morning speculated the same thing.

This is all my thoughts as well. I do drone work from time to time and am in constant communication with local ATC(including military). It’s a pretty professional and simple routine. They either clear me to a certain altitude if I’m near active airspace or they don’t clear me to fly at all.

Looking more like the helo crew which confirmed they had visual on the CRJ.
This is why the audio would be helpful. If this is the case than it would be on the pilot.

Now it boggles my mine that we rely of visual separation at night while flying over 100mph with aircraft so close to the ground. But it seems to work some how.
Had some hairy moments in Iraq at night trying to control with NVGs, pilots flying with NVGs and mixing Helos with fixed wing. That was always fun.

The audio is out there. Was available after like 30 mins and it’s clear what happened. The questions will be around the H60 pilots experience, did he follow SOP on that flight path, and unfortunately, who will the families get to sue

Army pilots…. Do yall receive ADSB data? Do yall fly with foreflight or similar?
Helicopters are two person crews… I imagine PIC is monitoring radio and traffic

Tragic news to wake up to. Just awful.

Yea it’s on there and was shared in this thread somewhere. If you check back through the first 3/4 pages it should pop up

Airport is definitely closed until 11 a.m. Check with your airline and don't make your responses about you. It is likely that most of 67 people are dead. Think about that.
I have been posting plenty of responses about breaking news from local sources as soon as I hear them.

I use foreflight, most everyone I know does also

There is atc audio out there. Think Blancolirio has it on his YT video. Pilot definately confirmed visual but there was another incoming flight that the pilot may have mistaken as the CRJ. I am not a pilot so not sure how plausible that would be.
In my mind mind it would be too easy. Busy airport with a lot of incoming and departing aircraft and all you see is lights in the sky. Guess that is why I am not a pilot.

ATC comms
At 13:05-13:30 or so, ATC communicates with AA5432 and unfortunately seals their fate by changing them to runway 33.
17:20 or so, ATC asks PAT25 (Blackhawk) if he sees CRJ, which he acknowledges (inaudibly) then ATC immediately advises PAT25 to fly behind him. About 40 seconds later you hear background of someone in tower seeing it and responding “oooh” and 10 seconds later another flight asks ATC if they saw that.
Then you hear the rise in voice as they start redirecting. Can’t imagine that ATC guy. Does a good job of controlling his emotions and redirecting

Its so difficult to believe that this is possible in 2025. My boat (not fancy at all) can give me collision alerts with very high accuracy with about $2000 of equipment.
