Wrong wrong wrong
It is not against the CC term of service to change a fee or impose a minimum purchase

. If it costs the business 47 cents minimum to swipe a credit card and someone is buying a $1.39 coke on credit, that 47 cent fee just ate up any profit margin the business would've made on the sale
They won't ever win with this kind of attitude. Losing a tiny profit margin on a product like coke is nothing compared to losing out on all potential future profits from a customer.

is this still acceptable?
Of course. This is America and the business owner can do what they want. If we don't like it, we are free to shop elsewhere. In a free country, it doesn't make sense that we would legislate that they must do this.

A flat fee...no....but there are a bunch of stipulations that don't really apply to 90% of people.
Never saw minimum purchase mentioned.

Depends on the type of business.
If its a convenience store where most of their transactions are small amounts, then it makes sense to have minimums on credit card charges. If that customer comes in every day and buys a coke on credit card and the business is eating that 47 cent fee on $1.39 charges all the time, they never make a profit off that customer.
Now if its a business that typically isn't dealing with average sale amounts that are small like a convenience store, then it makes sense for the business to just eat the credit card fee on a small purchase so they don't lose out on potential future business from them.

1) confirm they allow returns
2) buy extra items on credit card to meet their minimum
3) return extra items
4) profit

If they made anything off of it then it's more than if I didn't buy it at all.

I only use cash when it is necessary.

This happened to me just today. I went to pick up some pants that got hemmed and the Asian lady says $8. I pull out a card and she proceeds to tell me its a $10 min. Just told her to charge me the extra $2, you're welcome Asian lady.

Bitching about minimum dollar amounts when purchasing something isn't very OT baller.

The fallacy in the assumption of all the "no minimums" people is that a customer exclusively doesn't make the purchase and never patronizes the business again when faced with a cc minimum. Where are they getting that data? Even if SOME customers choose to not buy and not patronize in the future then the minimum purchase policy may still be a net positive for the business. Besides, who really wants a customer that can't gather up $0.89 for a piece of gum?

It's a business, they can set a minimum if they want and if you don't like it you don't have to use a CC there. Pretty simple.
Unless the business that is enabling them to accept electronic payments has forbidden it in their terms of service.

I hate places that charge fees to use credit cards.

Thats thinking outside the box....only thing wrong is that most places that have credit card minimums are gas stations and convenience stores...don't see too many of them allowing returns

I'm not saying I'm boycotting a place because of the minimum. I'm saying if I don't have cash on me then I'm not buying it. Just like going to fleur de lis, most of the time I don't have cash so I don't think to go there.
