Agreed. I think most people here would hate to see what it costs me each month. Even worse, that line item is labeled "credit card discounts". Salt in the wound.

That's not the way it works. No, they can't set a minimum amount.
My (asian) dry cleaner requires min 10 dollar purchase to use a card. However, one the rare occasions where my bill was less than that and i wasnt packing cash, they let me pay them next time and take my clothes today.

according to whom?
If it's a law I'm not aware of please let me know, seriously. I just assumed it was up to the business.

If it's against credit card terms of service can I complain on the courts and the dmv, all of which directly pass their cc fees on to you.

Every one that I ever end up seeing are Indian (dot) owned gas stations.

business doesn't even offer a "we have to tack on the 47 cents on top of your $1.39 charge" which i would probably be more inclined to accept than a dumb $5 minimum.
They can legally add a surcharge for credit card payment BUT it can only be a maximum of 4% (4% is a lot less than the 47 cent fee on a sub-$5 purchase) and they have to disclose it up front and show the credit card surcharge separately on your receipt. All that is a lot of extra time and BS for the business for such a small purchase. Just buy something else that you'll eat/use to get over the $5 limit or shop at a store that doesn't impose a minimum on credit cards.
Those minimum charges and credit card surcharges don't apply to debit cards...so if they tell you there's a minimum purchase amount for debit, thats illegal.

You'll lose a lot more than 3% by only taking cash.
Just add it in to your prices.
I'm sure that cash pricing can effect the amount of business you get; but, I can also steer you toward several glowing success stories here in Tampa that are cash only. If the product or service is great people will adjust.
The reduced transaction fees are only one of many reasons cash is superior. Lol..

All the credit card companies who process the transactions. Standard terms of service for all major credit cards forbid a merchant from charging different prices as a condition of their processing your transaction.
Every major credit card company has a website to report businesses who don't comply.

Point away. I'm curious as to what your glaring success stories are

On debit cards, they can't. But on credit cards, federal law allows a business to set a minimum purchase amount up to max of $10

Yall sound like women gossiping on Facebook about something they heard someone say sometime at the nail salon. Do some research before claiming things are illegal or against terms of service. Also, welcome to 10 years ago because this has already been settled in the courts.

Too many to name but numerous restaurants, farmers markets and St Pete's internationally recognized Brewery that did over a million in sales last year are some. Increasingly common at Barber Shops and Hair Stylists and even our daycare offers cash/credit pricing.

But they aren't charging a different price. The price of [Item X] is still $2, they just won't accept you paying for it with a card.

I rarely carry cash unless I'm going to a festival or event where I need to pay for parking.
I'd say that they should just round up the bill to the nearest dollar if the fees are too much, or just tack on the difference for a card user.

It isnt against the rules anymore, and they can also charge people the CC processing fee. I looked it up after I was pissed about them charging me an extra $3 when paying for my parking sticker

According to Visa, MasterCard, etc.etc.
Not a law. Just in the credit card companies terms with the retailer.
I've never seen anyone get pulled, but it could lead to a company not being able to accept a visa or something. Can you imagine what that would do to a gas station? Probably put them out of business.
