So HK is pretty defenseless.
Is there a level of death of HK citizens that will convince other countries to step in?

Good question.
I don’t see direct military intervention into what would be considered an internal matter but some leaders like Trump who are butting heads with China could use this as another reason to help ostracize them politically and financially.

He can't say it, but I'd bet privately Trump wants HK to melt down.

I recall grand fireworks and parties in the streets when HK was turned back over to China. Did the people of HK really want to be part of China again, or was that just grandstanding by the Chinese government?

Hong Kong is part of China. It is an internal matter.

It is quickly moving to a resolution neither side wants with the actions at the airport. Tonight the protesters have detained two suspected undercover cops (not clear if HK police of Chinese State Security). Just now a more hardcore element just beat the one of them and might be unconscious. Not sure how much longer the communists will wait before sending in the PLA and People's Armed Police.

The latter.
At least half a million people got the frick out of Hong Kong in about five years leading up to the handover.
Considering that the current population there is about 7.5m, that’s a huge chunk of the population that was probably there at the time.

The biggest wildcard here is what Taiwan does if China intervenes in Hong Kong? Does it push them towards independence which leads us into a conflict in the region no one wants to see?

The Asians are masters of the long game. Is this China's first real attempt to restricting the freedom of those in HK and suppress their voices through legislation?

That's not what she said.

At nearly three times the size of the Pentagon, the New Century Global Center in Chengdu, China, has claimed the title of world's largest building. WSJ's Deborah Kan and James T. Areddy discuss what makes the center more than just a building as well as the mysterious disappearance of its owner.
This is what that building looks like. It’s massive.
Is it a little odd to anyone that that one slide has a tube on it but there are absolutely ZERO people in the entire rest of the shot?

Wondering what the US Embassy is doing for our citizens over there. Gotta think they are telling everyone to get the hell out
Yes one of my former employees and his family who works for Goldman Sachs flew out this morning. They took everything of value they had stuffed it into two cars and transferred most of their belongings on a Falcon 2000 headed for Toyko. He said the embassy told all GS employees to get out now because Hong Kong is likely to get very dangerous for foreigners.

Given all the “ghost cities” in China, not really.
They have spent a frickton of money building a ton of cities with no one living there.
Building the world’s largest building then never having anyone use it would be in character for them.

Is there anything going on in Macau? IIRC, they have a similar relationship with the mainland Chinese government.

Yeah right. As long as you avoid the areas where they're rioting.

Yep. The greatest threat to China is not external.

Protestors capture and bind suspected undercover Hong Kong police officer. This is where things will start going off the rails.

The Chinese build entire cities with nobody living in them.
