Gators are fcking awesome. Leather Dinosaurs and our last link to an ancient past.
Don’t get the hate for them. Don’t frick around with them in their house, they won’t frick with you in yours.

“Pic seems wrong. They usually glow red”
They always lit up red or yellow.. I forget which but was told one color was male and the other female… no idea if true… I had two little ones as pets when in college and their eyes were red and yellow… guessing it is the camera versus flashlight ?

Alligators scare the hell into me. All reptiles do. “Cold blooded” isn’t just a Rick James thing. They have no reasoning or thinking or learning. They’ll just bite your arse.
Have you ever seen a trained reptile? Not conditioned, but trained?
I was on what we would call a party barge in Costa Rica and the guide got out and started slapping the water with a rank chicken. This conditioned 15 ft death machine proceeded to the boat behind the guide that was running, as much as you can run in knee deep water, for his life.
This dinosaur thrusted out of the water twice and almost made it into the boat. His head and front legs were over the rail. We stayed calm due to the Valium I bought at a road side pharmacy and a few Imperials.
TL;DR
A crocodile almost killed me.
And an alligator got real close to doing the same when I was 11 or so.

Louisiana has the most, Florida has the second most, then Mississippi.

I think Florida has more. Who can really say though? Sketchy data at best.

The lack of rain so far this year in SWLA has gators and turtles on the move. There's 3 gators that have been run over near me in the past 2 weeks. I see around 5 turtles each day crossing the highways.

Yes Julie the trained alligator. I forgot what swamp tour she was on. She thinks she is a dog. They use her for TV ads. Local swamp tour company has her.
You ride out with a gator on the boat with painted toenails and no tape on its mouth.
They would point out. "No one has died from an alligator in Louisiana in 200 years"(this was broken last year)
I still don't believe it was fully trained because it's a wild animal.

“1.3 million gators in Florida? That's a number I wouldn't have guessed. Wow. ”
I was surprised to learn that Louisiana has more. Latest estimate is over 2,000,000.

We did this for a little while and had caught 4 baby gators.
What did y’all do with the baby gators? Just curious, won’t hold it against you unless you fed them kittens or something.

Took them home to keep as pets then just ended up letting them go.

I have a similar picture of the entrance of an old fortress in India, but it’s bats’ eyes reflecting back from the darkness. Hundreds of them.

Nasty frickers. I'll stick to Kentucky and our wide array of mountainous wildlife instead thanks.
