More and more suits you see on a rack have pick stitching on the lapels, pockets, etc. To me, it cheapens the suit/cheapens the man wearing it. Here's an example:

Then you see a well made tailored suit like this example which also has pick stitching, except done to be entirely unobtrusive and not a focal point or cause puckering.

What's your opinion. I have a debate about it work. Younger guys think it looks like fine tailoring but the older guys say it screams J.C.Penny change of season rack sale.

I don't know much about fashion, but it kinda makes it look like a woman's suit IMO.

If you have an ugly face, it helps draw attention elsewhere. Hence, I'm a buyer.

That first example you see has always looked super low quality to me. Stuff you see on cheap, generic off the rack suits.

Used to be a sign of a hand made suit and was something I wanted. Now that they do it with machines, I want nothing to do with it.

I’m down to one suit

And haven’t worn it in 2 years

You can pretty much wear a blazer and slacks to just about anything now and get away with it.

I hate it, too. I also hate “kissing” and “waterfall” buttons on the sleeves. Looks like a drunk person sewed them on there. Cheap and faddish.

The pick stitching looks good but I think it makes it look a little more casual. It is similar to doing a different colored stitching and buttons on the cuffs of your jacket.

I only have 1 and I haven't worn it in probably 5 years. Basically just for funerals these days.

I'm a lawyer who never wears a suit unless I'm going to court. I used to have a closet full of them. Now I only have a few, and they don't fit perfectly. I doubt I have enough suits to make it through a week long trial. Oh well. I ain't going out and buying a bunch of suits.

Not a fan of pick stitching. Big fan of functional buttonholes on the sleeve though.

That's some of the dumbest shite I have seen in men's fashion (including recent dresses by NBA players).

I wouldn't care if Brooks Brothers was selling that, that'd be a hard no from me.

Unless you are a slob or a profuse sweater you can get away with a week long trial with two basic suits. Just change the shirts and ties every day and have a couple different pairs of shoes and nobody even knows. Dry clean them over the weekend if it's a two week trial and you can keep it going.

If a suit is handmade and fully lined, as opposed to fused, pick stitching is a necessity - that is how the horsehair lining is attached. But well done pick stitches shouldn’t be visible like your example.

Machine pick stitching is tacky as hell.
