Well there is no chance of out swimming or out running either.

Do I want to be bitten, dragged underwater, and drown or beaten/clawed to death? i think I'll take my chances with a bear and hope it's not angry or hungry. Maybe if I lay still like I'm dead it would leave me alone.

That may be the case for some people on here lol, but no grizzly is climbing a rock or fence better than me. But one could out run me before I get there no doubt.

So just to be clear, we're picking which one is scarier?
I edited because I worded it in a confusing manner. Subject said pick one then I asked which is scarier.

Basically - would you rather be confronted by a bear in the woods or a gator in the water?

OP said in the woods. You're not sound asleep in a grassy knoll in this scenario. A 600lb grizzly bear is going to make at least some noise approaching you in the woods.

ETA: To be clear, I'm not saying that I or anyone else could actually outrun the grizzly bear. I'm just saying he has less of a chance of sneaking up on you than a gator in the water.

Myths about crocodilian attacks

quote:

Crocodilians cannot open their mouth underwater - some people believe they are safe as long as the crocodile or alligator remains underwater, but this is absolutely not true. Crocodilians have a special valve at the back of their throat (a palatal valve) which stops water from entering the throat. This means that any crocodilian species can open its mouth and bite even when submerged, and the majority of crocodilian attacks occur this way.

Gator would be easier to get away from. They don't see as well.

Also easier to kill and eat if the situation calls for it.

You take his back, he's got 60 seconds to get you off and then he's burnt out. Cold blooded.

You are not going to outrun a grizzly. Trindon Holiday couldn't outrun a grizzly .

even in death, pick the gator

it will death roll you, break all your bones, and you pass out/die in a minute or so. they kill you first and then eat you

bears eat you legs/a-hole first while you're still alive

Gator easily. Up it to a hungry saltwater crocodile, and then we may have a contest.

yeah, but even then, death by saltwater croc is preferable to death by grizzly

The more you know. I'm still choosing Gator. Unless the first chomp is head or neck he's not getting me. A grizzly would welcome someone fighting back. A gator would not.

that's not a joke. that's the truth

they go for genitals, a-hole, and legs first

go google "grizzly man death photos"

The one thing that a human has over a bear is it can't climb down a mountain as effectively as humans can. They'll tumble over if it's steep enough. If you try running up the mountain, the bear will kill you. If you're in a flat plain, you're fricked.

It's gator, there's no other answer. And it's not a good answer, but it's the right one. To say a Grizzly, means you have never seen one, or have forgotten what you learned about them. Claws that can cut to the bone, jaws that can crack your skull, 30+ MPH speed, at 600 Lbs. Can climb, can smell you from miles away. Literally 0% chance unless it decides not to kill you.

Gator isn't a good option, like I said, but you have at least a chance due to the shape of a gator, to get your arms around it. In both fights, ripping their eyes out is your only chance, and knowing that fact, I'll take the one that I could theoretically hold my arms around to try before I drowned or bled out. Getting to the gator's back would be my goal, but I have a bad feeling the death roll would happen anyway, so it'd be a loss anyway.

This.

Gators are skiddish man. I'm way too big and noisy. 90% of the time they'd flee from me.

Unless I stepped on momma's nest. Then I'd climb a tree.
