Facts. Piloted fighter jets are already obsolete. We just keep them around to swing our dicks.

It's not a fighter plane, it's a bomber

McDD was using the upswept tail stabilizers to do a bit of both, but I don't think this design ever made it out of theoretical.

Looking at the Chinese plane it looks like the wing tips have a movable part that could function partly as a vertical stabilizer, maybe? Not sure how that would interact with vortices coming off the wing tip etc though.

Vertical thrust vectoring, should have made it horizontal also to help with the tail less setup.

Increased stealth since it would be harder to spot on radar. Probably for precision strikes. B-2 doesn't have them either but their payload capacity makes up for it.

Could also be fake. Russia used to do that during the Cold War. They'd "leak" intel on some new fighter jet that could out perform anything the US had, making America spend money on R&D and production of something that can beat the phantom Russian jet.

See: The development of the F-15 to combat the Soviet Foxbat.

Turns out the Foxbat was a giant piece of shite. And the F-15 is still undefeated.

We did the same thing. Look at the XB-70. We throw out a Mach 3 bomber forcing them to develop really long range SAMs such as the SA-5 and later the SA-20.

How long is it serviceable before you have to throw it away and get another one?

That looks much like the F35 without stabilizers
