Thought this was pretty neat...

SpaceX has shared a picture of the moment the launchpad for its Falcon Heavy rocket was struck by lightning.

The Falcon Heavy launch attempt at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Thursday was scrubbed because of the severe weather,

At one point, the rocket's launch pad was struck by a bolt of lightning that pinged off the lightning protection mast on Launch Complex 39A in NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida.

Later checks showed that the bolt had not damaged the rocket or its payload, showing the mast had done its job of deflecting most of the bolt's power, SpaceX said on Twitter Friday.

You can watch the lightning hitting the launchpad here (YouTube link)

The rocket finally launched to space on Sunday on its sixth-ever launch, per SpaceX.

Pretty neat how the bolt bounced off that water tower.

The launch attempt that day had been scrubbed before fueling began... there were no explosive materials on board the vehicle at the time

Apollo 12: SCE to AUX

A lightning strike caused Apollo 12 to stop sending telemetry data back to Houston during launch

Houston was seconds away from aborting the launch in the air and basically force the crew to pull the eject lever since the mission controllers had no clue if Apollo 12 was on its scheduled path or not

Then 1 of the mission controllers had the idea of 'switch SCE to AUX'... the command got to the crew who flipped the switch... telemetry started relaying to Houston again... it showed the vehicle was where it was supposed to be and the mission continued
