My guess is that they need your ID not to make sure it is you per say, but for either paperwork (like filing with ins) or to make sure you haven't already purchased an un-allowed amount (like if you're cooking meth or something).
Probably more to do with ins than anything else - they want to get paid.

And even after the doc or PA calls them in I always show my I D when I pick them up. Especially if they’re narcotics

That has been standard operating procedure for years now. Need the patients DL or ID bc that number is what goes in the patient profile and ultimately into your state’s prescription monitoring program along with name, address, drug, strength, quantity, and doctor name.
We don’t ask our known patients for the license every time though unless the system is telling us the DL expired. All of this is mandated by the DEA.

Yep. And on the other end, my wife has to fire at least one patient from the outpatient clinic every month or two it seems, thanks to checking the PMP.

Class 3-5 controlled substances can be called or e-scribed if desired. Class 2 can also. I don't know where you get your info but mine comes from the pharmacy law book

Yep but only if that doctor’s office has the proper DEA certified e-scribe system which they don’t all set up for some reason. I don’t mind it for ADHD class 2 drugs but I wish they wouldn’t send class 2 narcotics that way at all bc if we can’t get or don’t carry that specific narcotic we can’t give the patient the e-scribe to go to a different pharmacy and it becomes a huge pain in the arse for everyone.

My benzo script refills over the phone. That being said ,a junkie I know ( former Friend) tried to “pick it up” for me. I will gladly show my Id to stay protected

Okay. This makes sense. Except that it does nothing to prevent the drug from getting into the wrong hands since ID is not required for pickup. Not to mention, they never asked for my ID...so I could have just stolen her wallet with the script inside and gotten it filled.

If someone stole a script pad it’s unlikely they’d make it out with their own name or even a relative. So showing an ID makes it less likely it’s bogus.

I don't mind as patients can get dr to send to another store via escribe but I see your point. I do think this cuts down on forgeries.

you'd be surprised at how stupid people are.... hell, if you are stupid enough to steal a pad, which is a felony in and of itself, then you are probably dumb enough to have it tie back to you some kind of way, not thinking about the down stream ramifications or not knowing/understading the prescription process and checks and balances associated with medicine nowadays....

hope you are writing the physical address of the patient on the hardcopy... the Board will ding you for shite like that...
