I usually only ask for ID if I don’t know the person or if the patient’s ID number isn’t in the system. I don’t care about ID at drop off, just pickup.
For example, let’s say the Smiths have been my patients for years. Mrs. Smith drops off her husband’s post-surgical Rx for Percocet. His ID is at home and he’s in pain. I wouldn’t think twice about her picking it up without his ID.
If his ID number wasn’t already in the computer, I’d tell her to just call me when she got home so I can submit the info in the system.
This scenario has come up lots of times. I work at a smaller pharmacy. We know most of our patients, so it’s easier to use common sense and empathy in these situations.

Yes. I have. I go weekly to pick up my gonorrhea medicine. And I pick up your mom's as well. She got it from me. I accidentally gave it to her when we banged.
