At this time at least.

With our limited technology (yes it is greatly limited when considering the idea of lengthy space travel).
What we should be doing is investing heavily in research and technology in orbital vehicles and being able to build in orbit as securely, cheaply and quickly as possible.

Until Humans evolve further any space travel of any sizable length will require space ports if you will.

Just something I was thinking about while eating my lunch.

Interest alone is what will get us to that point. People understanding the utility in getting good at this science. I feel you, though.

We’re doing this. Its a first step to getting there.

with that line of thinking we would still be living in caves. You need to dream the impossible to move forward. Simple as that.

Today's impossible is tomorrow's reality.

I disagree. Yes, currently long space journeys aren't feasible because of the deadly environment. But we have smart scientists, who can fool the stupidest among us into climbing aboard those deadly ships and leaving our planet.

Manned space flight is a waste of resources at this time. Unmanned is by far the most efficient way to explore space. I have no problem investing lots of money into cheaper methods to orbit, but until we have that we don’t need to be wasting money trying to put humans into space and keep them alive

Nah I’m in agreement with the OP. It’s not a popular opinion on here but unmanned space exploration and research into propulsion tech should be our focus. The ISS is not worth the expense at all and a manned trip to the moon or mars is pointless.

Edit: actually I reread the OP and he’s advocating for manned flight so I guess I am in disagreement after all.

Sometimes I feel the same but one must dare to dream big to push the envelope.

50 yrs ago, the internet was someone’s pipe dream.

There's something odd/impressive about DTG randomly having solid takes on space/space-tech

There's an idiot savant thing going on there

I believe that we should be developing vehicles to launch inside the human body to fight cancer and other diseases. This is much more practical for everyone overall. Space exploration is necessary but should be second to my idea.

After the recent thread about Voyager 2 leaving the heliosphere I’ve been on an astronomy binge :csb: I agree that manned space exploration is a waste at this moment. Mars exploration is also a waste of time. A concerted effort should be made to develop technologies for faster deep space travel. Jupiter, and especially Saturn, have some really interesting moons that should be explored more intensely. It’s also crazy only Voyager 2 has explored the two ice giants. However unlikely, FTL travel would absolutely be the most amazing accomplishment we could make as a species; At least in my mind.

Pretty sure that was the majority opinion of the Europeans circa 1492
