While I'm far from a historian, I remember reading as a kid about how the Brits felt like we 'cheated' during the American Revolution. There was an unofficial way to fight during battles that included lining up in formations but we 'cheated' by hiding behind trees or whatever.

The rest of the world may be attacking us in different, more subtle means, whether that's bio (China), economic (Russia/Saudi), information misrepresentation/social media, and/or other. Or if they haven't already, then they may in the future.
