you dont get the extra money. Unemployment replace lost income up to the cap ($247 normally, now $847)
you dont make more then you lost
That was a very emphatic way of being wrong lol.
The 600$ is on top of w/e amount you are eligible for from the state. If you get 1$ a week you now get 601$ a week. This isnt a cap increase, its a straight handout to anyone on unemployment in any state that signed up for the program (every single state did).
DoL Clarification on CARES act
Also this is retroactive going back to 3/28 for all states and some states earlier than that. So eventually you will get a big payday of the 600$ per week most states have been missing since the money is just now getting to the states.

EDIT: also have to prove that that you were RIFed and you dont have available job to work....
Normally correct, however with covid 19 majority of states have put on hold the policies requiring you to look for work.
However, if you were furloughed or laid off and your company comes back and tells you your job is back, at this point you will either have to go back to work or you will be dropped from unemployment.

That $27k per capita income includes everyone from age 15 and up, according to your link that is now down b/c the gov't sucks.
Kind of a stupid stat considering that this data says that every high school kid pulls in $27k a year. There's close to 400k high school students in LA.

So if everyone gets the $600.00 who gives a crap. The government had to push this through quickly! Imagine how much longer it would take for all of these inept state unemployment offices to figure out how much of the $600 you should get to reach your normal wage. I live on the Miss coast and they released a statement yesterday saying they have no clue when they will add the extra funds. “We are having issues with the regulations and wording in the bill”. This is temporary and they had to push this bill through.

Nope.

Agreed. And most who get that extra boost in pay are gonna shite themselves when the extra money stops coming and they are broke for wasting said extra money. This is gonna be a shite show.

No incentive to go back before then for huge amounts of people. This will be very bad for restaurants and other employers with low skilled workers.
Once this all ends, you get denied unemployment benefits if you turn down a job.

Do you people not realize the extra $600 a week is temporary?

Yes it's temporary.
Can I write this off as a charitable donation because I won't be getting a penny in stimulus or unemployment?

Alot of people won't care about this.... Those struggling at $247 a week will go crazy getting and extra $600 to go with it. Most won't save a dime of it. And $847 a week is way more per week that most would make even if employed.

Or maybe they’ll just be motivated to go out and get a job that pays more and stop settling for the myth that McDonalds is all there is?
I mean my scenario is as presumable as your scenario. 16 million people filing for unemployment’s is consisting of maybe 1 million people that fall into the category of underemployed. The extreme bulk of it is people like you and I that makes probably 50,000+ a year, payed taxes for years, and are unemployed due to government intervention into society. I promise, it’ll be fine, the 30+ people at my work that have been furloughed the last few weeks I assure you would rather be working.

Some, yes, but not most. The amount was selected so that, in conjunction with state benefits, the money would provide 100% income replacement for the average worker. Some will get more and some will get less, but it's all temporary.

Serious question - How do they know? Everyone I know who has applied is saying they haven’t checked up on anything or called employers because they’re too slammed. They are just approving you immediately.
You enter your income when applying, but couldn’t you just lie?
And what about people whose income is all over the place because they get paid via tip?
Edit - Nevermind. I see it was answered that the above quoted part is incorrect anyway. The $600 is flat.

The truth doesn't fit their talking points. Trump just signed the most socialist bill of all time so they're inconsolable.

I don't begrudge helping people in need with a few extra dollars. I can't imagine it's easy living on $520 a week OR $847 a week.
What I'd be upset about is money going to people who don't need it.

It’s called a STIMULUS for a reason. The government does not care how you spend the money ! They want to STIMULATE the economy.
I know I could give a crap less how people will use it. Mine will go to the same things my weekly check went to. Bills and food first. The extra $600 is not close to what I make normally but it may get me by until I can return to work.

I guess you don't pay much attention to government spending of any kind.

You could make the argument that a person's labor in Louisiana is not really appreciated
