The only wreck I've ever been involved in was with an uninsured motorist in Baton Rouge. Luckily the owner of the car, who let his girlfriend borrow it, had insurance. His insurance payed for my damage.
That's really not how it works.
The vehicle had insurance on it. Regardless of the driver, the insurance pays. The driver, if insured, would be a secondary payer.
This wasn't some luck thing. That's exactly how its supposed to work.

Happened to me/my family at least 4 times. 3 separate times illegals hit me and never had to pay a thing. BR police handled all 3 incidents. By the 3rd time an illegal hit one of my kids, I told the police I'm not leaving the scene until that illegal was in the back seat of his car and I really started getting irate until he did it. He said it's a long process to bring in an illegal and he was getting off in 3 hours. I'm tired of paying for others lack of care. Thats some selfish living to not carry ins and make me use mine because people would rather spend the money on other things than insurance. So I have to be responsible and carry extra insurance, but they can blow their money away on booze, cigs, partying, etc and not have to worry.

exactly...my company is self insured. kind of freaks out the police officers when you get checked, though.
It shouldn't. Most law enforcement agencies are self insured

My wife (while pregnant) was hit by a girl with no license, no license plate, and no insurance. When they ran her info, she also had a warrant for something else.
The officer told me we could sue and I was like ok.

Agreed, and when a vehicle that caused a wreck is found NOT to be insured, that driver should have their license suspended and the vehicle impounded until the owner can prove insurance coverage.
All towing/storage fees apply as well as a nice little fine. That will help disincentivize rolling through down in a car without insurance
As far as not having ID/license and causing a wreck, that driver should immediately go to prison

Some insurance companies won't allow you to carry collision & uninsured property damage. An uninsured, habitual convict hit my brother earlier this year & he had to pay his collision deductible (Safeco) for the repairs. Medical bills were covered by the uninsured medical coverage.

I've never seen that. Those coverages cover different things.

How can they get ticketed and fined and that money not go to the victim of their incompetence?
If they don't have insurance they damn sure aren't paying a fine or any restitution, they'll do 30 days and be driving again.

You should be able to sue them for as much as your damage costs with them automatically having to pay all court costs.
You should be able to sue them for their government assistance

What if I told you I don't have car insurance? But have taken action that provides for the law without me having to pay premiums to a corporation? Should I be hung?
Self-insured subtlebrag, Ray?

Most people don't realize uninsured motorist doesn't cover your vehicle. That's collision

People with no insurance, along with people who cruise in the left lane, should be rounded up, loaded into cattle cars and taken to a remote location for execution by firing squad.

this is kinda how it works....
but they need to impound cars of those without insurance and instead of speed traps.. run insurance checks...
inspection sticker check points actually catch a lot of uninsured drivers.

Why should I even get insurance if I don't cause wrecks and dumbasses who do don't have it?
That's why you have your insurance, and underinsured as well.
And pray that if you do get into an accident, the other guy has insurance. I had that happen and it was a huge pain to deal with.

That's not accurate.
Under Louisiana law, Collision cover a larger spectrum than UM-Property. However, if an insurer fails to offer Collision or if the insured elects to carry UM-Property in addition to collision, UM-Property pays for property damage due to the negligence of an uninsured driver.

Safeco most certainly allows for uninsured motorists

Same for my policy. I can't have both collision and uninsured property damage. I just have full coverage with uninsured motorist bodily injury.
