I don't have contents on my policy, only building.

No point in itemizing, right?

I suggest if you tearing out drywalll, leave a little section of visible water line for the flood adjuster to measure and photo himself. It just makes his job a little easier for him to document.

I would itemize everything just to be thorough. That's just me.

How much shite is it?

If it were me, I would.

There may be other fed loan programs out there that require itemized list of damages etc.

Basically, you never know and it won't hurt to have a good list for when the recovery process begins

Call your carrier.

The advice about getting rid of carpets asap and sheet rock is solid advice, but talk to your carrier.

Haven't been there yet. Waters still coming up.

I had very little in my house and what I did have I put up on the high shelves. I shouldn't have lost much if any electronics/valuables. I will probably loose my washer, dryer, refrigerater, AC condenser, and furniture.

Can tell you from experience if you have flood insurance of $150k you'll have to argue with adjuster to get approved for 2/3 of that.

If your Sheetrock isn't wet beyond 4 ft up then they'll only agree to pay for 4 ft. So stick a water hose thru the window and finish the job if you need or want new ceiling or moldings.

Call your agent/provider.

That's where I'd start.

I would even if flood doesn't cover. Good chance FEMA could cover that since govt declared this a natural disaster.

Have people had issues with flood adjusters?? After Katrina in NOLA most adjusters were very liberal money wise when submitting their reports.

Yea I will. Hopefully it's a really short list. I threw everything that water would damage up on the beds/dressers/etc so hopefully nothing worth claiming got wet.

I didn't carry contents because I didn't have much there and to echo everybody else, it never came close to flooding before.

I'm wondering if my large back patio is considered part of my dwelling? It's attached.

I'm fine guys. My childhood home was flooded from Katrina, but I was 20 then and didn't do the claims side of it. I was just involved in clean up.

I was mainly asking question that I thought others may have. I've already called auto insurance, flood insurance, got my mortgage/car note/cable bills suspended.

Why are people saying to rip up the carpet and drywall? Just curious.

Prevent mold from growing. Get everything out that absorbed moisture.

Back porch is not covered as it is and addition. Take pictures of everything and do a video walk through of the house in the phone and save it a couple paces. Get the wet drywall and carpet out of there as soon as possible.

As far as contents go if you do not have contents coverage more than likely some of you appliances will not be covered as they are not attached to the dwelling. Like a previous poster said if it is built in it would be covered.

As far as the auto as long as you have comprehensive coverage on your policy you are covered.that is the coverage for all none accident or collisions so to speak.

If you go replace everything save receipts they will ask to see them all so just be well documented. If you use a contractor save the paperwork and receipts as well that way there will be someone else to back you up in what kind of damage you had.

We didn't wait for insurance after Katrina and we were paid in full you just have to over document and not try to take more than you are owed.

Drywall and carpet (especially the pad underneath) act as a sponge and soaks up the water. Never be able to fully dry that out and will lead to mold and mildew.

Don't do any demolition until an assessor views the damage.

Great way to add to the stress in your life by adding in an insurance fraud charge.
