As far as contents go if you do not have contents coverage more than likely some of you appliances will not be covered as they are not attached to the dwelling. Like a previous poster said if it is built in it would be covered.

Refrigerator, Oven, Dishwasher are considered building. Be sure to take a picture of the model and serial number when you take them to the curb as they may be gone by the time the adjuster gets there. The flood adjuster needs those numbers to document.

Let me say this about floor coverage. It does not matter if your flood insurance was bought through Allstate, or State Farm, Farmer's etc. All of these policies are FEMA policies and they there is no gray area.

A flood policy is not a homeowner's policy. There is no additional living expense for a being displaced, there is no coverage for contents (even if you have contents coverage) for contents outside of the dwelling of the home. If you have a detached shed and it is full of tools, flood is not going to cover this. Think and act appropriately. Did you move some of your tools into the home prior to the flood to help protect them...

i would think take care of your immediate needs and keep the receipts to turn into insurance if they need it for replacement value.

I'm figuring insurance may not pay out for awhile yet.

If your Sheetrock isn't wet beyond 4 ft up then they'll only agree to pay for 4 ft. So stick a water hose thru the window and finish the job if you need or want new ceiling or moldings.

Please don't tell people to commit crimes and game the system during a fricking disaster.

People should not wait to pull out their carpet. Take a pic or video and that will be more than good enough.

If they (mortgage company) ask you if you are doing the work yourself or of you are having a Contractor do the work SAY YOU ARE DOING IT YOURSELF!

Even if you aren't and you are hiring a contractor (which you will, start looking for a good one you trust now) you have to tell them you are doing it yourself or they will write the checks to the contractor and you (so you have to get endorsements from contractor) and will also release the funds based on progress from contactor so you only get it in increments as work is done.

I learned the hard way and it took an extra at least 2 months because I answered this question wrong very early in the process.

Good luck and know that in the long run its nice to have a complete remodel and modernizing of your home.
