Nobody is perfect. In my experience you get a lot better service if you are friendly and understanding when mistakes are made. I have not encountered many people that were mean to service industry workers. Maybe I am just lucky.
I suspect that people who feel marginalized at home or in their own professional life are more likely to take it out on a random stranger.

People look down on service industry workers and do take out their frustrations on them. Hell, look at how this board views service industry jobs

I honestly believe that every young person should work in retail or food service. It makes you appreciate what those employees go through, while also making you a better tipper. Downside is that you probably hate people for the rest of your life.

I learned a lot.
In my experience those aged around 55-65 were the meanest ones to deal with. Damn Baby Boomers.
There was once a black lady with an Illinois shirt on who said we were all racist because the food service people (who were all black) wouldn't give her what she wanted. She said everyone in the South was racist and that she couldn't wait to leave. It was one of the more bewildering moments in my service employment experience.

I find that kind of behavior sickening.

t's simply people trying to assert some sort of authority who have none in real life. Anyone they perceive as below them in any given situation is fair game. 99.99999999999% of the time in my office it's medicaid patients (of which we see very few). Their entire existence is at the bottom of the barrel, so of they think for one second they're above someone they sure as hell will make it known.

When I get pissed about something, I take a breath and say: "I know you didn't make this policy and it isn't your fault but here is why it is fricked up. What can you do for me right now to make this right?"
And when they say nothing and you have to continue to argue, you realize their sole job is to act as a firewall between your satisfaction and providing proper service.
I can't tell you how many times I've called customer service and been polite only to yell at them an hour later whenever they don't understand my simple request. Last 2 go's with AT&T and cox they have made me quit. Only thing I can do is sue over a couple hundred bucks.

Scum. And just to add, I know we've all seen this behavior from affluent people probably moreso than other demos. Especially in restaurant services. Terrible people.
I've kind of found it to be the opposite. Usually snobs that don't get the opportunity to be snobby often.
It's an attitude I just don't understand. This person is at work, why make their job harder than it needs to be? Would you want someone to do that to you?
I have never worked in the food service industry, and this is probably why. I don't take undue criticism well.

I'm willing to stand behind some stereotypes, but trust me, it isn't just poor black people acting this way to servers and such. I waited tables and delivered food in college. I got a lot of annoying tables and $0.00 dollar tips from a certain demographic. But the only people who were vocal were crappy white people. I realize that is anecdotal evidence. Actually every time it was a shitty complainer, they were in the smoking section or alone in the bar area. And you could just tell they were crappy people.

I have a friend who's wife does this shite every time we go out to eat.
her drink is always weak or wrong, food is wrong or cold, too slow, blah blah blah blah blah

In my experience, women are definitely the worst. Middle aged women.
Worst to best:
Black middle aged women
White middle aged women
Black 20s-30s women
Teenagers
Black 20s-30s men
Black men
Elderly women
Elderly men
20s-30s white women
20s-30s white men
Middle aged white men
Pretty right on, but I've said it on here before and I'll say it again.
The worst tippers are the Sunday lunch, post church crowd (regardless of race).
They are the worst.

Absolutely. Black women are miserable people and completely suck to wait on. It amazes me how picky they are about their food. "On my salad, I don't want iceberg lettuce, use romaine instead, no onions or cumcumbers but extra cheese and bacon with ranch dressing on the side and some extra napkins, but paper napkins, not these cloth ones" and that's just the fricking salad. It's ridiculous. Then they get their food and it's never 'excellent' it's always 'ummm, I guess it's ok" while they make a face like they smell a fart. Then they tip you 3%, half of it in change.
frick them.

I know a lot of ppl in here are gonna accuse blacks of being the most guilty of this but in my experience it's the lower class whites or even white trash that are the worst
They usually don't make much money but aren't so poor they have to work service industry and I think they are just dicks to them bc of their insecurities
Idk, just my theory

My 10 year old son goes through glasses like paper airplanes. So, we were waiting on another pair at Vision for less on Seigan. Just absolutely excellent service there. This pompous arse starts screaming at the nice gentleman employee " I've been coming here 20 years and never a problem". Older black gentleman obviously with money. Screaming that he is supposed to fly out that day and this will mess him up. Also made it known that he owns the plane. He then starts screaming for the person to be fired that messed his order up. My son was sitting there just watching the interaction. I then told my son loudly "Dude, if you get great service for years and years, don't act like it's the end of the world if someone makes a mistake". He was mean mugging me then. The very nice employee then told him " You have to leave now" while standing right in front of him and pointing at the door. It was great.
