I click NO just to be difficult and not play their game.

Had a client who claimed that he wasn’t getting my TPS Reports, chewed me out and reported me to his superiors. Claimed he didn’t get the email or the fax he then requested. I started sending return receipts, only time in my career, and turns out he was straight up deleting the emails, and still calling me out to his superiors claiming I didnt send the report. I think he was psychotic or something or had it out for me, The moron failed to realize that the superior was on the email too and got every one that I’d sent. He got fired eventually. But the read receipt saved me.

I’m glad outlook allows you to the option to not send them. I always say no.

I'm convinced that 90% of America has no idea how to use email. Another ridiculous thing is when emails keep getting replied to / forwarded and the subject line becomes RE RE RE RE RE RE RE RE Quarterly Meeting and then the email is Jamie and Susie talking about lunch plans.

Not unreasonable to request knowing that someone has seen something and be expecting a response. In fact it’s extremely retarded of all of you to expect otherwise for some reason. I guess this is the mentality of people that don’t make the decisions

I actually like these people. It gives me the chance to be active in clicking, "No Do Not Send a Read Receipt."

They're too fricking passive aggressive to do what I had to do three days ago, which I had to set a follow up flag alarm on an email(I'd sent the request to review business requirements to five people that needed to review once before, and only one person commented within 4 business days.) Boss forces me to copy him on every email I send, which means him being on copy has no teeth, and everyone knows it.

OR maybe I expect my direct reports that the company pays to read their emails in a timely fashion and then execute their responsibilities like a professional without needing a babysitter. That’s what follow ups and reminders on a calendar are for.

Well, I can certainly tell you don’t. You do realize that simply sending the email IS the receipt. Then it becomes the receiver’s responsibility unless you’re some kind of insecure micromanager or inept at effectively communicating or managing.

Women love that BS.

Also the same ones who have 1,367 unread email messages on their phone

Why are they the way that they are?

I have mine set to automatically do it (and send receipts) because I got tired of people trying to blame their laziness on me with "you never sent that to me". I sent it and they read it but they want to CYA by blaming me.

Since I'm in IT so for those problem folks I also set their email client to automatically send read receipts so that they don't realize I'm getting the receipt when they've read it.

What about CCing yourself on every email sent? Asking for a friend

Is this a younger generation thing? Makes sense as I’m hearing the kids talk about ‘keeping receipts’ now.

I'd rather them that those that "reply all" on a 90 person email that only needs responses back to the original sender.

I remember working at a customer facility where they gave me a company email. That company had over 50,000 email addresses between direct employees and contractors. A companywide email was sent and several people sent a reply to all asking to be removed from the list or asking "why am I being sent this". It crashed the email system.

I will make it a 100% point to not send a read receipt and if they have any jackassery going on in the CC section, I will take them out of the reply also.

I send all emails as BCC so they never know who may be copied on the correspondence.

Happened more than once at my time at ExxonMobil. The reply all went to thousands. Then, the reply all was responded to with various responses--mostly why are you sending me this, which went to all. It quickly became a running joke of the day and f*ckup the email system. I remember one email of a post of a dog with a gun to its head with the caption 'if anyone replies all again to the email I will shoot this dog.' Good times.

I’m surprised we still have the BCC function in outlook.

I have always been on the side that anyone who replies all to an email that clearly was a mistake should be fired. They don’t have the ability to function as an adult
