I don't think there's anything inherently "evil" about snakes.
But (on youtube at least) it seems as though the guys and girl you see that are into these things are pretty fricked up looking. One guy I was watching had tats all over himself and body piercings on his face, stretched out ear lobes with big rings, etc.
But there are others on there that are perfectly normal looking. One of them is Clint Laidlaw with Clints Reptiles. He's perfectly normal looking and he's very humorous.

I had a snake when I was 13. I also volunteered/worked at the Audubon zoo for years in middle and high school. Liked a bunch of different animals and snakes were the easiest to take care of. Ended up letting him go because he was native to Louisiana and just a mean miserable little bastard who bit me about a thousand times.

Had a boa drop from the ceiling and land on the back of my lazyboy chair one night while I was sitting in the chair. Lower Garden District large house made into 4 townhouses. The small boa eased thru a crease in the wall upstairs, made its way down the hall, and dropped thru a small crease in the ceiling onto the chair. Owner said he had been missing the snake for a week and it was probably hungry. I had jumped up from the chair when it hit thinking one of the ceiling beams had broken, but it took me awhile to see the snake as he had assumed the color of the chair (wine).

Having pet snakes and respecting their place in the wild are two different things.
I’ve never met someone that I would consider normal who owns a snake as a pet, but as an outdoorsman, I would probably be in the crowd telling some jackass not to frick around with a wild snake.

Venomous snakes are dead if I see them around my house. I have pets and kids.
We have plenty of snakes in our neighborhood and I leave the rest alone. I'd rather have a king snake or rat snake in my yard than the alternative. I'd never own one as a pet though.

Had them for ~10 years and I was "bit" once. I use the term bit loosely- I was putting a hopper in and was holding it by hand across the tank from the female. She just sort of missed the hopper slightly and got my finger but immediately let go. Never had any other issues outside of the occasional escape. They will go into your shoe in the closeout 10/10 times.

2, snakes eat vermin that you dont want in your house, they very much have a purpose
3, why own an aquarium? Some of us enjoy the practice of raising and caring for an animal. sorry you are too scared of a snake to enjoy raising one.

I never feel a need to kill a snake. Probably would if it was venomous and at my house, though

My little brother had two pythons years ago. He would tell me how his snakes knew him and loved him! LoL
One day i was there and noticed one was missing, asked him why. He said he was feeding it and it bit him, several times! so he got rid of it. thought it loved him? lol

This is one of the most well-defined city-versus-country questions. People who are really from the country want every snake killed and don't try to figure out what kind it is or if it's somehow beneficial. Haven't given it too much thought myself, but I can at least say I don't look down on the country take on this, at all.
