re: People who have been to or live in CA, why do you hate it?

San Francisco is okay, but not exactly what I expected. Golden Gate Park area is nice, but still just okay. Oakland is hands down the worst place I've ever been in CA.. and I've spent time in Compton.
Wine country, however.. I really love.

L.A. isn't "amazing" all over, but the shithole sentiment is way overblown. Parts of DTLA/Hollywood and certain lower income residental areas are shitty, but there's also numerous beautiful parts of town. It's like people visit once and see all the tourist shitholes and decide the entire city is that.
Agreed. I am not impressed with the tourist areas and can see why people are turned off by them, but so far living in the South Bay has been awesome. Always something going on, active friendly people, the beach is a half a block from my house, good food, great weather year around, etc.

Stout, I didn't even realized you live in SoCal now. That's awesome.

It's only been 6 months but I enjoy it so far. Will be here for a bit longer then I will go try another city or even country for a while.

Was in San Francisco on business not too long ago and caught a news article that stated that the average home price in SF has exceeded $1m. $1m...are you kidding me? For $1m you get something like a 2br 1ba 900 sq ft house on a dime parcel of land.
Also, walking through the the central business district, it felt like another country. Easily most folks were Asian, with the next largest ethnic group being Hispanic.

If you can't find a person in California who shares the same belief system as you, then you aren't trying at all.

I’ve lived in the South Bay for almost 20 years and southerners hating on California or L.A. just makes me laugh at this point

Ok, maybe it was a bit harsh.
But the people that vote and support their stupid laws are the ones I hate. Which seems to be the majority.

LA is a shitehole overall and Frisco is the same but more whacked out.
I have some family members that live just north of LA in the Ojai area and near San Luis Obispo. Those are nice areas not as many people and the people are more laid back.

Yeah but you have to live under their policies. Stringent gun laws, high taxes wacko environmental regulations

Bought a house in the Bixby Knolls area of Long Beach a while back, but I’ve lived in RPV, San Pedro, Signal Hill, and Huntington Beach

Nice. I am in Hermosa Beach.
It's interesting to me how each town in the South Bay has its own vibe.

the progressives have ruined CA
CA has the same problem as most other states, they gave out huge pensions to police, firemen and other public servants without actually setting aside the money to pay them, and now the pigeons are coming home to roost. Plus the pols always have another plan to give away public monies.
The climate and scenery out here are fantastic. It is ridiculously expensive to live here though, and you could not pay me enough to commute to the City. My commute is 0.7 miles from house to office in downtown Napa.

There are parts of northern and central California that are almost as conservative as Livingston parish.

They do. It seems to me that people go to downtown LA or Hollywood and then proclaim that all LA sucks.
Hermosa and Manhattan Beach are cool places. Not crazy about Torrance but it’s easily avoided.
