I like the way Texas drivers move to the right so it's easier to pass when you approach them

I would've done the same thing as the dude did to the OP. When people flash their lights or have their brights on behind me, it blinds me, so of course I'll be pissed. It's unnecessary.

I'll agree that the lights can be annoying, but should you not move over before the car even gets close enough for the lights to be a bother?

I would LOVE for the left blinker to pass to catch ion here. In Germany you can just put your left blinker on and people get out of the way.

Not on a two lane road, just to alert them that you were passing

A few states permit use of the left lane only for passing or turning left. These have "yes" in the "keep right" column. Some states require drivers to move right if they are blocking traffic in the left lane. These have "yield" in the "keep right" column. Most states follow the Uniform Vehicle Code and require drivers to keep right if they are going slower than the normal speed of traffic (regardless of the speed limit; see below). These are listed as "slower". A few states either do not require vehicles to keep right ("no"), or permit vehicles moving at the speed limit to drive in the left lane regardless of traffic conditions ("< SL").

I've never seen it done, either.

I'm shocked. But apparently it isn't taught anymore, and Wikipedia says it's "aggressive".

Oh well, guess I will just have to tailgate and drift pass lane campers then.

I see truckers do it in reverse... the one that has just been passed flashes the faster truck to let him know he is far enough past to pull back over in the right lane.

Well yeah, I generally move back over after passing. I'm just saying that I generally won't react well to being blinded while driving.

If the car is going above the speed limit say 75 in a 70 then that car isn't slow traffic it is in fact speeding.

3 lanes on most interstates running through nashville and there are HUGE signs posted that say 'tractor trailers use right 2 lanes only' and they enforce this.

it actually makes moving through traffic in the left lane much more bearable without some pussy tractor trailer leaving a 1/2 mile opening between him and the car in front.

They get away with it because trucking is a way of life.

This thread is multi-paged proof of why people in the SE are such shitty drivers.

I started it thinking I would get 5-6 replies and then it would fall to page two. I had no idea that this many people had no idea of the concept of the passing lane.

Also in three lane roads the left is the designated passing lane and the middle the "fast" lane. In two lane roads the left is the passing lane and the "fast" lane. SO.. It's okay for the guy to go 75 in the left, just as long as he gets over.

Yes 80 is fast, but I was not the fastest car by far and was passed many many times in the drive home.

I see now I have the answer to the OP, so I have lost interest in it.

i agree on no slow pokes in the passing lane. not an issue with laziness like some responded. passing on the right is more dangerous than passing on the left. theres a reason people call it the passing lane. now if its a matter of getting over to left will make the guy slow down cus hes about to pass a car then just be patient. shouldnt be going that fast anyway.

WHY IS THIS SO HARD FOR YOU PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND?

I don't see a lot of people struggling to understand anything. I suspect that some folks just have certain memories of that one particular asswipe with the lights flashing.

I've seen more than my fair share of idiots flashing lights in long lines of traffic with cars in both lanes. Per the blind logic being pushed here, the car at the back seemingly has a move to the front of the line pass and need only exercise it with a flash of his lights, upon which all cars in front of him should move over.

I don't view that as being the simple scenario being pitched by the OP; the point being that this is not some kind of simple hard and fast rule that applies in all situations. I think most decent people would be happy to get out of a speeder's way.

The real point is that there are people out there with problems/issue and the OP apparently found one. If he continues to flash his lights, he will likely find another.

Although it may be wrong and horrible, it's a roll of the dice since road rage is simply a fact of life.
