. the one that has just been passed flashes the faster truck to let him know he is far enough past to pull back over in the right lane.
they generally don't flash then flick the lights on and off.
I was trying to let a car I could see wanted to go fast but was stuck in the right lane get in front of me and I turned my lights on and off and they didn't move. So that is another one that a lot of people don't know.
Flashing brights = get out of the way
lights on and off = go ahead and get in my way

I dont think the responses were driven by inability to grasp the use of the left lane. I think it was more about how to interpret flashing lights which is obviously a little more controversial

the new douchebags are the jeep owners with the 7 billion watt LED bar mounted to the front they flash at you.

Why ask me this? Ask the dozen or so people who said it hurts their eyes.
I'm going to keep on flashing because I believe in "flash to pass" Let people get agro, I can get agro back. Who cares.
ergo

I want one on the back of the truck for people who drive with the brights on.

You don't have to convince me, I'm on your side. Although I did say "flash" I didn't mean "flash brights".

apparently
I guess I use the Optical horn and "flash to pass" as I was taught, and others get aggravated with that as their parents taught them.

I rarely ever flash, but I have before if it was warranted. Ultimately, the ones blocking the left lane are breaking the law (in Louisiana).
And I only use the left lane for passing, but if I'm going 85 there, and someone is coming up faster behind me, I get over and let them pass (if I can), and then continue on. But then again, I'm not an communist a-hole.

In Ontario, the Highway Traffic Act does not prohibit "flashing head beams"

California- It is legal for a driver to flash his headlights to indicate intention to pass on a road which does not allow passing on the right. However, headlight flashing on multiple-lane highways is illegal.
quote:
In Washington, flashing high beams is not technically illegal, while driving with high beams on within 500 feet (150 m) of oncoming traffic, or 300 feet (91 m) of traffic in front of a driver is illegal. Drivers are advised not to flash their high beams, as overzealous law enforcement officers commonly misconstrue the law.[1] Under section 46.37.230 of the Revised Code of Washington, flashing one's headlights is not expressly forbidden but may result in a $124 traffic infraction.
Most focus on warning other drivers of impending speed traps.

The post that hit the nail on the head is the one that said the ones you have to flash will be too dumb to understand it

my buddy is a miami police detective with an unmarked car.
whenever i visit and we're in the police car he'll come up on a lefthand lane camper and he lets them start their passive-aggressive window washer/brake check bullshite.
then he hits the christmas lights
quote:
sometimes he takes them all the way to a stop on the right shoulder then goes on by
Why does he let them go? That kind of behavior constitutes aggressive driving, which is a fairly serious offense.

After reading through this thread, it amazes me how many people have no idea of the basic rules of the road.
It doesn't matter what speed you're driving, or what mood you're in, or how many other open lanes there are; the far left lane is not for cruising. It's a passing lane. That means you use it to pass other vehicles. When you are no longer passing other vehicles, you move back into a cruising lane. If someone flashes brights at you, while behind you in the far left lane, it's because you aren't using the lane properly.
The only time there should be someone immediately behind you in the left lane is during heavy traffic when all lanes must be used to allow for the heavy volume.
Follow that basic rule and you won't have to worry about someone hurting your sensitive pussy by flashing brights at you or driving to close to you.

If the car is going above the speed limit say 75 in a 70 then that car isn't slow traffic it is in fact speeding.
In most jurisdictions it doesn't matter how fast you're going in relation to the speed limit. Slower traffic still (legally) has to stay right, even if you are yourself speeding.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not, but Texas license plates are by far the worst offenders.

right, it's against the law to flash your lights to warn of a speed trap (will Waze be illegal one day? SFP thread..lol) but not to flash to pass.

Read it again. In certain situations it IS illegal.
Also, as stated in the definition, flashing your high beams can be considered an act of aggression and could be hazardous.

You have got to be kidding. 50% of the time someone won't GTFO of the left lane in Louisiana, they have a Texas plate.
