I have seen it in political campaigns but very seldom in person. Have you ever known or seen someone change their dialect when talking to someone with a different dialect other than their own?

I’ll admit when I was in the NE for college I’d try not to say y’all as much

It beats when people go out of their way to act more like stereotype of where they’re from.

Throwing in extra talks and using a country accent when they don’t actually have one

I guess I am weird but as a kid I had a strong Cajun accent went to college in Ruston and developed a slight red neck drawl. I really dont do it on purpose b ut I find if I talk to some one with a strong Cajun accent mine slips back to it and that goes with most other accents too I dont do it on purpose but find my self talking with their accent after a while its a struggle for me not to do this.

I’m the same way. Cajun during the holidays, redneck during the rest. I can’t stop it and I don’t notice it until someone points it out.

I do this subconsciously. I lived all over the country growing up and I'm pretty decent at impressions. For some reason I start matching the accents of the people I'm hanging with. I think it came about as a mechanism to try to fit it with people when I was always the new guy growing up.

It sounds so insincere & affected when most people do this. Definitely a pet peeve of mine.

My wife makes fun of me but i feel like every time im speaking to a Hispanic person, wether its my lawn guy or a waiter at a mexican restaurant, i talk with a mexican accent.

“More salsa por favor” in a horrible accent

Steven seagal had the best in Lawman. When talking to his white cop partner he spoke perfect English. As soon as he approached a suspect, he took on a "blackish" dialect. It was hilarious.

It’s called mirroring. I do it frequently. Sometimes consciously but mostly just automatically. It makes the party you’re speaking to feel more comfortable, typically.

When I moved to chicago, I was told real early to learn to simmer my accent and use of "yall". So I did. Now it'll come out when I'm comfortable, and having a convo. When i've been drinking a bit too

Ohhhhhh and if I'm talking to female needing something or flirting it'll come out. Ha. I had an an employee in CHI that would make fun of me, knowing I was on the phone with a female cause my accent would come out. Ha. Hey it works

Father C in lake Charles tries to do a cajun accent whenever he tells a joke or talks about food. It is horrible and cringy. He is so gay lol

It’s also a natural subconscious thing the vast majority of people do. And it isn’t just their speech. You subconsciously change your mannerisms to be more in synch with those around you.

It’s a natural instinct to try to blend in with the surroundings. You do it as well, you just don’t realize it
